Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kotaku Australia: Target's Grand Theft Auto V Ban Leaves Us With No-One To Blame

any tl:dr version?

Kotaku AU saying that banning GTA V from being sold is (politically) correct, due to the perceived crappy image for women here.

Then, they turn around and claim this: "Essentially, what we should be fighting against here is the mainstream belief that video games are exclusively for children. More importantly we should be fighting against the idea that interactive media has a stronger impact on players compared to movies, television or music. These are the misconceptions that inform these petitions. These are the misconceptions that are constantly re-reported in mainstream media outlets as fact. These are the misconceptions media outlets routinely exploit for traffic and manufactured outrage."

Damn it, the premise of this article is making video games a "safe space," and they have the gall to claim this?

Where is the petition to ask Target to close doors if they don't lift the ban?

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Doesn't surprise me that this would happen with the way non-gamers in Australia treat games. As an American things like this show me how good us Americans have it when it comes to gaming freedom. And prices...

It's a free market. A store can sell or not sell what they like. Seriously people, get over it. Babies or us don't sell it either because their customers wouldn't agree. It's pure business sense.

I lold at these third wave feminists.

I mean in most rich countries women are paid less than men for the same job.
There are countries in which women have no rights.
Countries in which rape is legal.

But yeah, let's focus on an equal representation in medias, ignore prostitution exist and is legal in countries that don't support organized crime, and pretend to be white knights while pissing off a majority uner a moral excuse.

When will Kotaku just stop with all this feminist BS? -__-

Yeah, they can sell or not sell whatever they want. But people can certainly be upset about them refusing to sell something for such a pathetic reason.

Indeed they can, but there is a different between expression and force. Some people would have them bend over and do what they are told to do. The best worlds are the ones where people and companies have freedom of expression, as long as it's not at the expense of someone elses.

Taking away Targets right to choose would be wrong. By them doing this, they have harmed no one. The other expression, however, is stating that target should be controlled. That is wrong.

1. Stores are free to sell what they like or don't and I am free to go there or not. I don't blame companies for catering to misguided public opinion, I blame those that started this nonsense with the petition.

2. GTA's depiction of humanity is cynical, satirical and negative in tone. Vast majority of playable and non playable characters come off poorly and not meant to be emulated. "Putting that aside" is missing the point of the game and shows a desire to see what ever you want to from it.

3. This article sums up by pointing out this is all foolish and doesn't relate to real world problems we should be concerned about. Domestic violence, human trafficking and inequality have been with us for a long time, and this petition did nothing to aid in addressing them. If anything it distracts and marginalizes real concerns because now being a feminists elicits reactions of "ugh, offended by everything" as opposed to "people who want equality and dignity for both sexes".

And so it begins, now Norwegian feminists are demanding that the game is pulled,
