Forums - Gaming Discussion - Realistically, what is the biggest franchise that Microsoft can buy out that would give them first place in console sales?

Other than the Mario universe, nothing. They could literally buy every Sony IP and Sony fans would find a reason to turn on all those franchises.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Microsoft already has three big blockbuster franchises. Halo, Gears of War and now Minecraft. However, I don't think this will be enough for Microsoft to be first place. What franchise could achieve this? I think overall, only COD will be able to do this. Maybe GTA, but that isn't a yearly title.

Nothing. Period.

One game does not make a console #1

FF7 made not just the psone but playstation as a whole..

LOL are you crazy?!  It wasn't the CD player, GT, Spyro, Crash (Which was a more recognizable mascot than Mario for a year), Metal Gear Solid, and the 1 year head start it had on the N64?

Hell GT was the best selling game on the PS1, not FF7.  Does anyone around here actually fact check anything they say?

i remember the ps launch and the massiv shift the ff7 ads gave. if ff had stayed on nintendo consoles, sony would never had won that gen.

Again, it wasn't even the best selling PS1 game, and it isn't like PS1 bairly won.  They one by 333%!!!  Don't become an analyst buddy.

Madden COD or Mario.

Cod is on a slow decline, although this years sales is on par with Ghosts, but I would still choose COD or Mario Kart (which is very unrealistic and will never happen)

Call Of Duty Advanced Go Kart Warfare

I'd put Fifa in place of Madden.

Fifa in Europe would sway a huge amount of gamers there. COD in NA and Europe, and Mario could bring over a lot of Nitendo fans and casuals and generally worldwide appeal.

Perhaps if they had all three. It would certainly be amazing to see that happen, the biggest megaton in the history of the industry and it would provide some very entertaining reading on vgchartz.

GTA or CoD.

GTA doesn't need to be yearly. Buy that out, and within a single game release they'll get their investment back and enough beyond that to make the entire generation profitable on that title alone. Two titles and no one would be able to dispute the profitability of the Xbox brand ever again.

Yeah, sure. Because Rockstar would totally sell GTA franchise for the price of one iteration's profit.

Halo says hi...

However I think it's going to a number of games. COD would have a massive impact, along with games like GTA or straight just buying out EA.

Says hi to 24 million sales vs the PS2's 160 million lol!!!  Learn to read I said #1.

xbox arrived towards the end of the ps2 generation. by that time ps2 had a huge lead. theres no  way any consoles , could  reach that amount in one year or so. so not really a fair comparison

i would say buy some of sonys key franchise. The ones that will cause shit storm on the internet. those franchise , do sell alot and would be nice to have especially if you can only get one console each generation.

it dont have to be the best selling game of a console to be the most important.  timing is all, and ff7 was perfectly timed and won the gen.
