Forums - Politics Discussion - Can everyone agree that White American police officers are above the law? - No indictment in Garner case......

Don't worry, as long as you're not too fat, their dogpile tactics and chokeholds shouldn't kill you when you get suspected of selling untaxed cigarettes.

Maybe.

Mannn, I've heard smoking can kill you but this is ridiculous....

Funny, I don't recall blaming the victim. An accident by definition doesn't have active perpetrators.

I agree, but this was no accident.

So were the officers aware of Garner's health problems? If they were aware excessive force could have killed Garner then yes, this was not an accident. If they weren't aware then this was in fact an accident. For all we know, Garner himself might not have been aware of his own health problems.

Whether or not the cops were aware of Garners health problems are irrelevant. The cop knew the choke hold he used was illegal. Its illegal for a reason... Its becuase it's inhuman, harmful and evedentually results in peoples deaths...

The choke hold he used isn't illegal.  Its not permitted by the department but he didnt break any laws by using it.  I dont think it even was a choke hold since the man was able to speak when the cop had him in the headlock.

Either way he shouldn't have done it. What the cop did directly reulted in Garners death period.

It was banned. This is not the same thing as being illegal but it can be fatal if used improperly and for an extended period of time.

Agreed. This case should have gone to court. The coroner even ruled it as homicide, no?

I understand the police have a difficult job but to put someone in a chokehold, then choke them to death when really they weren't even violently resisting and selling unlicensed cigarettes ... ?

Gimme a break.

Some cops are way too drunk on the power their job entails.

The choking to death never happened. Garner was not choked to death.

America's corruption is a much bigger problem then just this case. But a drop of rain in the ocean of corruption.

"The city medical examiner has ruled the death of Eric Garner, the 43-year-old father whose death in police custody sparked national outrage, a homicide, saying a chokehold killed him.

The medical examiner said compression of the neck and chest, along with Garner's positioning on the ground while being restrained by police during the July 17 stop on Staten Island, caused his death."

The article goes on: "Garner's acute and chronic bronchial asthma, obesity and hypertensive cardiovascular disease were contributing factors, the medical examiner determined."

Let's not omit details. Currently, I am trying to get a copy of Eric Garner's autopsy which I assume has already been conducted. Not easy.
