Forums - Politics Discussion - Obama calls for police to wear body cameras as part of $263m reform package

Actually this is a really good idea. We can get rid of eyewitness accounts and get better evidence for court cases, cops also woudn't have to worry about testifying and the like cause they just have to submit there tapes.

That being said, its obviously not gonna pass, because congress, although there is zero legal reason for this not to pass and the benefits far exceed the costs.

this is still going to get abused. Oh sorry, forgot to charge my cam today sarge, oh my cam fell off right before he rushed at me and i drew my gun and shot him, oh i thought my cam was on, apparently it wasn't, oh my cam was stolen, and the hundreds of other oh sorry sarge my cam ... stories

a cop who didn't check his cam before going out would be considered offduty...if they were smart about it.

Exactly.  Also, if police are justified, it would vindicate them.  Remember the police work for us.  Like quite literally we pay their salary, benifits, comp and pensions.  And I don't know about you, but I want to know that I am getting what I am paying for.

Yeah right, let's see anyone try.

Reds have a habit of simply downvoting anything that's put forward by Obama especially budget increases, but I think this would be really counterproductive and hurt the party if they did.

The camera idea should be implemented no matter what.

It's a benefit for both ways I think. Policemen could have proof of bad behavior from people claiming abuse of force and people could get proof from the same but reversed.

Also knowing that policemen have cams on all the time, it would discourage more people from acting like thugs because they know they are filmed. Same as policemen that want to abuse of their power, they would think before jumping on their guns.

I think the only ones who would be agains't this are those who take benefit from the current situation. Cops supremacists and weapon sellers that wanted the money to be put in the militarisation of the police force.

In regards to it not passing, it's an executive order so it could get opposed but no real vote is need to put it in effect.

Re-read the article.  The funding requires Congressional approval, executive order cannot fund something.

I think it's a good idea. This will put an end to a lot of "he said this, X/Y/Z said that".

If we already have cams on dashboards then why not on cops?
