Forums - General Discussion - Wii, PS3,...Not! 360 the winner for the holiday?

I have to admit it(having paid full price) But, It seems that the PS3 is so slow at sales, It is my opinion that the price would probably have to drop at least 200 dollars or more because if Microsoft does, what is rumored then Nintendo will be in first place and MS in second, closing forever the chance for the PS3 to be a competitor at 2nd place in the next gen wars with the existing library for 360. Or if Nintendo can't make enough by the holidays, then Microsoft might maintain the 1st spot til after the holidays.(I do not own a 360....yet!)

Fact: MS has shipped several X box around the world(still sitting on the shelves)

Fact: a thread on here posted that MS forced Best buy and other conglomerates to pick up extra Xbox, so they could buy the Vista program.

Fact:the holidays are times for purchasing presents, If someone is purchasing a system and told the gift is sold out or on the waiting list.....how many will resort to an Xbox(since it is in stock? If this happens and Wii is out, the tide may turn. I know you are all saying BS the wii will win, I have a wii, but how can they win if the systems are not available and peole resort to buying a 360 at a reduced price of $249 or a 299 or 399 packaged deal?

RUMOR: As the Holiday season gets closer MS will drop the price of 360 to attract more customers, but keep the price of the Elite to compete and force sony out of position. does MS have the nerve to attemp this??? Who knows? Would they reduce a price? MS has an advantage, they have units already shipped and a library!

MS forced retailers to take extra inventory to stuff the channel and improve their shipment numbers for the previous fiscal year. By the time the holidays have come around, those stocks will be long since depleted and they'll be sending big holiday shipments. Personally I don't think the 360 needs a price cut to have outstanding sales this holiday season.

I can tell you about the situation in germany right now:

The Wii is still hard to find and the 360 premium is available with two classic games (Kameo, PDZ or PGR3) for a price of 299€, while the Wii is 249€ including Wii sports. The Wii is hot and the 360 not. The Wii sells at a much faster rate.

Most people that look for a Wii want to play Wii sports and other motion sensing games and the 360 is no option for that. So these people would either wait until they can get a Wii or wouldn't buy any console at all.

This situation could be different in the USA, where the 360 has its strongest ground, but I doubt that many people looking for a Wii would buy a reduced 360 instead if they can't find a Wii.

Your thread title does not say whether it's USA-only or worldwide, but either way I would say that Wii wins the holidays. On a worldwide basis with ease, in the USA the 360 will give some challenge, but the lineup for the Wii this year has much more diversity than the 360's.

You have valid point, but I was talking of the Holiday season..people have the attitude here of.If I don't get a present I will be a bad person/parent.....People might pick up a 360 and say.if you don't like it we will take it back type of attitude....Its all in the holiday season, pricing availability/titles etc. but if it isnt available at a HLIDAT TIME???? we dont know what will happen. We all know how chatic shopping can be around these times.

The 360 *may* win the holiday season in the US - but if it happens, it will be primarily due to both the 360/Wii trying to sell out - and the 360 having greater stock (from slow sales during the year). If Nintendo can produce/supply enough units, I don't think the 360 (even with Halo3 & price cut) has a chance. The Wii will definitely win in Japan (actually the DS will, but hey...) not sure about Europe. Be very interesting to see how the PS3 does, and what they do with the price.

I expect that the XBox 360 and Wii will have similar sales in North America and Europe through the Holiday period, the PS3 will see lower sales than these systems in these regions but will have worldwide sales similar to the XBox 360 due to Japaneese performance. The Wii has the potential to sell far more units but Nintendo will simply be unable to supply enough to meet demand.

The only system that will outsell the Wii this holiday season is the DS. The Wii has too much momentum. And you can buy a Wii (or a DS for that matter) for just about anyone as a gift. The 360 is only the gift you get for that person you know is a hardcore gamer. Everyone from kids, wives and girlfriends, parents, and grandparents, will be getting Nintendo systems this holidays. And price is also a big factor. Who knows, if the PS2 gets cuts to $100 maybe it will outsell the 360 this holiday season.

Your second fact is actually a rumor.

Um.No, they have actually shipped all over the US(best buy etc., and they also shipped/rented a boat for the PS3 launch overseas.

No I'm talking about the claim that Microsoft forced Best Buy and others to pick up extra Xbox 360s in order to get more copies of Vista. There's no proof at all, not even some anonymous disgruntled employee even.

actually you'll find he said "a thread on here posted that MS forced Best buy and other conglomerates to pick up extra Xbox, so they could buy the Vista program.". That is a fact, you can look through the history and find that thread if you want, it was definitely posted ;. As for the actual channel stuffing, of course it's not proven but there is a lot of evidence against Microsoft.

As for the actual topic, I think Nintendo is already preparing themselves for the Holiday season. They're stockpiling units and there will be millions available for the holidays in US. With GTA and Halo, however, Xbox could see a huge number of sales as well.

Time will tell ;)
