Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox One wins Black Friday in the UK, sales double

Games may become the first factor only when they are really a huge gap between the two but right now it does not make any difference. Even if the Xbox One got more AAA exlusives than the PS4, mass market does not really care. Maybe one AAA will boost the sales for a week or two tho but in the long run the price is the main factor when you have such similarities on the software side.

So why was Ps4 still handidly out sellling X1 when both were 399 ? especially with its weaker exclusives list.

Its doubtful it will outsell the PS4 in europe for the week though.

it has zero chance of coming anywhere near the PS4 in the EU. If it only drew with the PS4 in it's strongest EU market it's fucked for the EU over all.

On that we agree. It is just too late anyway for Europe (price or not).

Xbox One will be viable in Europe (compared to Japan ) but they will never beat the Playstation brand. At least for this generation, way too late.

they never had a chance to beat the PS4 this generation in EU. 360 had a 1.5 year headstart of pS3 and was a lot cheaper the whole gen but PS3 passed it out comfortably. The consoles releasing side by side sealed it's fate. It would of needed like a 2 year head  start haha.

Price+Multiplat Games+Exclusive Games. Those are the three main factors and it has all three of those.

In that order imo.

Lol no.... If the day of tomorrow PS4 don't have FIFA or COD and XBO does, for example, you can cut the price all you want of the PS4, but XBO will sell a lot better. It's been since forever and always will be:

GAMES > PRICE > POWER

The fact that multiplats like COD, GTA or FIFA are the best sellers is not because they're multiplats; they're multiplats because they're the best sellers.

Price is not the most important factor, never has been, it helps of course, but it's always second to the games. PS2 wasn't the cheaper console back then and trounced the competition.

extremes huh?

...and if you console cost $5000 you wont sell any.  Lets not be silly about this.

In this case, as in last gen, the two consoles have pretty much the same library, therefore the cost is THE most important factor.

You say my point is extreme??? It's not but you saying the $5000 line is absolutely absurd. Come on, be serious. If I'm Microsoft and say I sell you my console for $100, but then I say I'll spent the money supporting terrorism, you won't buy my console, don't you??? So public image > price then (THAT'S EXTREME).

You have Iphone costing $1000 outselling  most phones that cost more than than half, why then?

In the real world, with reasonable pricing, games is still a more important factor than price. You can sell me a WiiU for 100€ and I'll never buy it, because I don't want it, but I paid 400€ at launch for a PS4. It's rational or it's crazy? Why I did that if price is more important than everything else? Why most people in the world did the same??

My goodness there is some hardcore bickering going on in here. Price is an absolutely gigantic factor for holiday shopping. When little Billy tells his mom he wants a new PS4, and the mom goes shopping on Black Friday, the mom sees an Xbox One right next to the PS4 for $70 cheaper. She doesn't have a damn clue what the difference is, so she gets that instead so she can buy more makeup for herself.

Not even remotly true, most parents will buy what their kid wants.  None wants crocodile tears you didnt buy me what i want on xmas morning.

Most kids would be ecstatic to get either one.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

A deserved win if you ask me..

Well, if we ask you what's the difference between a deserved win and an undeserved one?

MS do too you know. There are only so many loses they can take before troubled heads start to rise. If the sales drop a lot for the first 8 months of next year the profit forcast for the system will go way down. Especially if PS4 starts 2015 with over 20M sold.

Since March this year they've been in all out firesale mode and the thing gets cheaper by the month. It's sales would wanna be better for the early months of next year but with zero system sellers you jut can't be too sure. Especially when the competitor is keeping it's ball rolling.

And every single quarter both the segment of MS business that includes the Xbox One and the segment that includes Xbox One software have shown healthy profits. So before you start thinking MS is shivering in its boots check the financials.

Brand loyalty, that's all it needed to be said.

Well, I think the opposite. IMO mass market consumer is even more worried about the games than hardcore gamers. If they can't play their FIFA, COD or GTA they don't even care to buy that console, even if it has some crazy offer. They don't feel the need to buy one. Create that "need" and mass market cosumer will buy anything, even if it is pricey.

And don't compare Microsoft or Sony exclusives with FIFA or COD. I can guarantee you, that if one console grabs the exclusivity of any of those games, it's over for the other one.

Well yes I agree.

I really talking about the current situation where both consoles have a good offering in term of exflusives and it does not really matter that much. But of course if you have one of the big AAA third party like Fifa, COD, GTA coming out only on one console it will become a major factor in it.

Microsoft made all the required adjustments to make the Xbox One a even more successfull product compared to a year ago.
They will definitely deserve this win (if they win BF).
