Ever since the first Harry Potter book released and kicked off the single largest franchise the world has ever known in 1997 - Peoples of all ages around the world have wanted to be part of that world.
A full generation and a half of children grew up with Harry; every single one of them wishing they would wake up to the tapping of an owls beak on their bedroom window - with a Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry stamped acceptance letter tied by magic to its leg, or gently clutched by its talons.
Now I cant be the only one that sees the immense potential there can I? As it pertains to an MMO at least? Just imagine it...millions of fans open their mailboxes or latches one morning to find a letter sealed with a Hogwarts stamp that reads:
"Dear Mr.or Ms. ______,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of neccessary Items.
Term Begins On *Release Date*..."
Naturally, the enclosed list would lead to a viral website of sorts that announces or reannounces the game. Something like this would create an absolutely huge level of hype and almost giddy buzz!
Of course that would only really work in the long run if the game is actually good. Luckily, by its own nature, the world of Harry Potter is virtually full of limitless possibilities. The world itself is huge, as on multiple occassions we are shown that magic exists aplenty outside the usual magical locales of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Diagon Alley.
There are Dragons in Egypt and all over the world...Giant Villages (literally) scattered about and a multitude of Wizardry School outside of just Hogwarts. With proper writing and care by a development team that would do the series justice, you would have an absolutely MASSIVE hit!
And yet, here we are...18 years later, and no real Harry Potter / Hogwarts MMO in sight.
However...The final chapter in the final book was...19 years later...
...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.
"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"
