Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 were released at Bad times

I belive MS weren't wise for releasing SSO and FH2 and Halo MCC ( well MCC as it has a tojs of bugs and shuld have been delayed to fix them bugs but that another issue , IMO MS are heavily damaging the Halo brand, halo 4 annying mp + spartan ops + mcc being a bug ridden mess )in this quarter of year

Sorry back to Forza Horizon 2 and SSO

People are like exclsuives matter IMO thats great but I think Sony strategy is the best , family games and bg name exclsuives in The lattr half and big and small exclsuives in the 1st half , so that the games legs and popularity dont get killed by massive 3rd party games

390k to now is bad , very bad considering how heavily advertised this game was , theres no spinning , and getting Insomaniac to to do the deal wasn't cheap

FH2 is also doing very meh , probably sell lesss than the 1st

Whats worse is that the early half of next year HAS BIG 3RD PARTIES TOO and the sales for xmas 3rd parties will still be chugging these games are gnna struggle to 1m lifetime , annd its a shme cause they are fantastic games

( LBP is a bundles game and is very legs reliant )

Just my 2 cents

True. The timing on Sunset Overdrive 2 was so bad I didn't even notice it came out at all

if you want to know the truth i honestly dont know why SO isnt selling great. i think it looks like a great and fun game, if i would have assumed a game like it would sell a lot. sometimes good games just dont sell, and that seems to sadly apply to SO

as far as forza, well, i think the racing genre in general is declining, specially in the US. so it was expected for it to not perform great since xbox one is strongest in the USA then UK, with it performing badly in the rest of EU were sales of racing games are good.

SSO2? XD

Sunset definitely released at the right time. It got some good bundling and certainly didn't do badly. A solid base to build on.

Halo MCC had to release then to get Xbox One sales up for the holidays, oh... and it isn't a bug ridden mess. The only problem is the servers handling all the people trying to play it at once. Unless Microsoft invested more in that then it probably would have been an issue whenever it released.

There is always an "only" problem. that doesn't make it right. Especially after the issues DC had one would think MS would have learned from that. Lets not forget that Xbox is supposed to have the online service to beat and the whole azure servers stuff was the cornerstone of all their XB1 marketing.

Anyways I think he's right. SO should have released in the first quater of 2015. I think new IPs should always aim for release windows that aren't stacked. Frza and Halo released at the right time, they are already popular and established franchises.

Good game are sent out to die all the time. The holidays belong to the big boys. The b level IPS make a library look good but, like movie releases, you have to put thought into when it's the right time to release them. The temptation to get that holiday money is too great, I guess.

There are many good games that don't sell great. Of course what's different about SO is that it was a well promoted exclusive, with it's own very special white console bundle. So it wasn't quietly released and only sold to people who actively monitor game releases and look for the quiet achievers.

Fact is this game was the wrong genre and style for the core Xbox fanbase, which are pretty much the only people buying Xb one right now. I don't know if MS was hoping SO would be the Gears of War of the 8th generation, but there was no way SO had a hope of having that sort of effect. The Gears of the 8th gen for Xbox will be a TPS or FPS that is totally exclusive to Xb one.

FH2 is a spin off of Xbox's premier racing franchise. FH1 sold modestly and FH2 selling relatively low numbers is completely unsurprising. And it really wouldn't have mattered when FH2 launched it would have seen this level of sales.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Both are very likely to sell 1-2m lifetime. Im not sure why its expected they sell 1-2m at release
