Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why I think Microsoft heavily contributed to Rare's downfall.

Why you may ask? People say that they're quality of games were decling. Sure it might have beeen decling, but their last game with NIntendo, Star Fox: Adventures, was still a good game! It has a Metacritic of 82 and a Gamerankings of 80.23%! Compare that to Rare's first game with Microsoft, Grabbed by the Ghoulies. That has a Metacritic of 66 and a Gamerankings of 70.33%. The highest rated game Rare ever made under Microsoft is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. That has a GameRankings of 80.66%, and a Metacritic of 79. Barely better than Star Fox: Adventures. I will leave you this article for you to understand why I think Microsoft ruined Rare. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-08-who-killed-rare

People here disagree about that.

I feel its more like, Rare was going down hill and MS was the nail in the coffin... Their games overall, just havn't been as good as they used to be

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I don't think it's fair to use Grabbed by the Ghoulies as an example of Microsoft's mismanagement. That title was originally in development for GameCube, but production was rushed after the buyout in 2003. It was a victim of the chaos surrounding the transition from Nintendo to Microsoft.

In general I'd say Rare's decline was the result of three things: Microsoft's mismanagement of the studio and its properties, the exodus of key personnel, and the loss of Nintendo as a benefactor.

Your lack of common sense is incredible.

This pretty much sums it up well. Its not really fair to put all the blame on Microsoft when Rare had a good amount of problems even before the buyout.

In Rare's defense, they have had some decent games come out during their time with Microsoft (Viva Piñata & Kameo), but unfortunately nothing on the same level as their output from the 90s.
