Exactly what "remakes" are you referring to? The only remakes they did were released for the DS, psp, and ps1. Remake =/= Remaster. FFX/x-2 is not a remake, Kh1.5-2.5 and FF Type-0 HD are not remakes, they are remasters, meaning they've just updated the visuals to make it look on par with the current gen or the console it's being released to. Key-word: updated.  FF3 and 4 for the DS and eventually mobile phones are remakes. Now compare that to it's original version. They made the game from scratch because it's supposed to be made from scratch because that's how people do remakes.

They haven't done remakes, but remasters. Truth is how many remasters have we seen from the PS1 era? how ugly would said game be lol? I specifically remember someone from square ( saying that they won't undertake the project because it would be too big/costly, so in regards to the conversation surrounding FFVII people (including square) were always refering to a remake not a remaster.

I wouldn't be shocked if its just the PC/steam version getting released onto the PS4 but if this thing is real, there is notable chance that they are refering to the full on remake people seem to so desperately want.

Japanese publishers aren't into remaking stuff, save a few exceptions. And I'd like FF9/FF6 remakes as well, but those are even less likely.

They remade FF3 and FF4 for the DS.

Yeah, they still make PSX games!!! Yay! Might take away the dust from my SCPH-7002 system! An actual copy of FFVII is hard to find these days!
A remake of a PSX game for PSX! Finally 4 CD-roms also for the PSX version with added content!
PS:
PSX is the code-name for Playstation (1994 console), used a lot to indicate PS1,
PSX (DVR) is another console, a special PS2.
