Note: Turns out that I did mean Tyler Perry. When I changed it, I thought Tyler Perry was the guy that directed "Black Snake Moan."

No, when they showed the African American guy in the Storm Trooper suit at the beginning of the trailer and he started running, I thought it was going to be a Tyler Perry Madea movie or a Wayans Brothers comedy like Haunted House 2.

Still hoping this turns out better than Trilogy 2, but I'm still DEFINITELY NOT SOLD on this.

Maybe somebody needs to bring back Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon instead.

Edit:  The Sith Lightsaber that had a cross like appearance to it did look cool.   Some of the vehicle sequences were good.  Who's the girl?  She looked like a young Jessica Biel.

Still DEFINITELY NOT sold that this will be the Best thing since sliced bread, the Original Trilogy, or match up to the Best Final Fantasy Games though.

It looked already. Being a teaser, i will hold my judgement but it did look impressive (graphically) but I don't understand the thought process behind the new light saber. It makes no sense to me.

I always thought lightsabers in general as cool as they are are horribly impratical. The "blade" I would assume has no weight and any simple mistake and you would instantly burn yourself, but I guess they're Jedi/Sith so whatever. The guard seems silly though because you're just adding more to potentially hurt yourself.

looks a bit like a traditional german longsword, but as you said the laser parts make it really impractical to use

in historical european martial arts there are soo many moves that involve grabbing your or the opponents blade/guard which are all impossible here

There's lens-flare. Toned down...a bit, but still there. Why, JJ? Why can't I be wrong about you for once?

My opinion from announcement day was that JJ Abrams was the wrong director for the job. He's great for popcorn flicks, but so are Michael Bay and Zach Snyder, among a slew of other B-list directors given an A-list budget. Basically, since Lost ended Abrams hasn't shown me that he has any ambition. I really didn't see anything in the new Treks worth rebooting the franchise over, and I don't see anything here worth decanonizing the EU.

Perhaps more to the point, I'm a little irked that both of Science Fiction's big franchises are now getting directed by the same white guy.

Abrams will really have his work cut out to convince me this was a good idea.

While I agree JJ isn't the best pic for these movies, what does his race have to do with anything?

Nothing in particular. It's just reinforces how closed-minded the production team really is. Most short fiction SF periodicals sell SF as the genre of diversity, not just racially but of opinion. Hollywood clearly believes in neither.

Between Jurassic World and SW VII, my childhood is in for an epic raping next year.

we already had JP3 and SW I, it can't get any worse, right?

Of course it can... SW 2 and 3 both say hi lol.

I'm a bit more optimistic about SWVII than I am about JW though... there was some truly cringeworthy dialogue in the trailer, and the idea of some engineered monster dinosaur terrorizing everyone just screams 2nd rate B-movie.

Still holding out a new hope (see what I did there) that SWVII will overall be a solid movie despite the obvious nostalgia pandering with cameos by the original cast.  I'll probably end up seeing both, but I already know I'm in for a huge disappointment with JW.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I'd say by the same hack, but that's just me.

Eh, hack is a bit unfair. He's never done anything bad, but after Lost he's always played safe on everything. Bay and Cameron likely deserve the label "hack" much more. Abrams is about the same as Jackson; "sometimes they're pretty good, I guess." The only major director who has ever done cool things is Nolan, who has really not been on his game the last few years.

The Sith clearly turned it on separately from the main blade, so I'm not too miffed. If the guard ever got in the way, it can be turned it back off. It doesn't look anywhere near as impressive as the designer obviously thought it would--a cruciform lightsaber just looks silly--but it's not terrible, either.

Lumping James Cameron with Michael Bay is quite cruel and unfair. Cameron has awesome movies to his name, Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day are excellent action movies and no matter how people like to bash on Titanic and Avatar, I found them to both be very enjoyable films.

I liked Avatar the first time I saw it, when it was called Dances with Wolves.
