The real question is, why even launch there? It's pointless.

At this point Microsoft would probably have to invest hundreds of millions in order to make an impact in sales in Japan and that wouldn't even guarantee them an installed base of 2 million there.

There's that, but also the Xbox One being fat, and not having something major to set it apart from PS4 for Japanese tastes. The exclusive games that Xbox fans are going gaga for in the US don't hold much weight in Japan.
They literally invested billions in the US and still came out second, so I don't think any amount of money would have saved it in Japan.
No surprise, who wants a console with games nobody seems to care about (in Japan)? Even I have trouble finding an interesting XB1 exclusive.
Well, it really wasn't his fault.. The X1 was doomed to sell like crap in Japan so it doesn't really matter who would have been the boss of Xbox Japan.. :/

Honestly, I'm surprised there was even a person in Japan to lead a Xbox division, let alone an actual Japanese Xbox division. The way it's been getting marketed there, I thought all the work was being done in the US, and they just had some middle man there distributing them to retailers.
