They are still trying to get sales, but in the most "profitable" way they can. I think there will be a price drop next year easily but this time around, they are hoping that MK8 + SSB are strong enough IPs to push "enough" sales to make them profitable

Wow, some of those PS4 and X1 bundles are really good deals!
Yup, Nintnedo has given up. In places like the UK they aren't even bothering anymore since the Wii U would hardly benefit from a price cut.

Profits > Bigger Installbase

Ninty need to swallow their pride and drop the tablet and release a much cheaper Wii U. If it launched without that and much cheaper it would be doing a little better now over all. It's like the kinect. Just an add on most people don't want, especially not at the extra cost.

Bigger install base = more software sales = better profits.

Oh, I thought you were going to back that up.

Anyhow, Nintendo's not about those "artificial" sales. What kind of Western company do you think they are?!

The UK population has made it patently clear this generation that they cannot be reasoned with. If such discounts are what they need to make a Nintendo purchase while Apple products and the likes apparently have acceptable price tags, I can honestly say that they don't deserve it.

Nintendo shouldn't even bother trying to sell games there. If it isn't Soccer or Battlefield they are not interested.

That was the original plan which didn't work out. What they're doing now is plan B.
