I think Ryan's trying to say "system seller." And if that's the case, no to all of those.

Well, he should have said system seller then :/

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Star Fox better be good and it'll be a must have. Splatoon looks cool. Mario Maker is going to be awesome. For the first time since Mario Party 5, i'm looking foward to Mario Party 10

As far as major system sellers for Wii U, there's really only 3D Mario, Zelda, maybe Mario Party 10, and if Retro has anything special cooked up aside from another Prime game. Then there's secondary exclusives like X, Starfox, Yoshi, Kirby, Splatoon, Animal Crossing... but none of these will really push hardware sales.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Damnit Spurge, stop thinking like a Retail Manager for once.

If you're talking about "big guns" or games that are regarded as the main reasons everyone buys the system, the games that people say "everyone" with the system gets (even though the best attach rates are rarely more than 50%), then...yes, there's more than Zelda. There's Zelda, there will definitely be another big 3D Mario game on the scale of Galaxy, there's still Animal Crossing which nowadays is just as big if not bigger than Zelda, Pokemon console games tend to sell a few million by default, and there will most definitely be a Metroid at some point.

But really, this assumes we're limited to just well-established 1st party IPs. That would mean all Microsoft has is Halo and Gears, and Sony has Uncharted, GoW maybe, potentially LoU though I really think that should just be a stand alone game, and The Last Guardian lol that's it. I don't think we should count out new IPs yet. I mean LBP only became a major system seller last gen, and uh...well it's not anymore, but the point is a series can become a major must have even if it's new IP. Like Wii Sports! Sure, that one's dead too, as is the whole Wii series, but the point is they were fucking huge, and they were brand new! Gears of War just came around last gen as well, for another example, one that isn't counted as dead yet, and Uncharted, Sony's biggest gun it has right now, also just came around last gen! New IPs can make a huge difference!

Well we don't have review scores of future games so we don't know what games will be must haves at this point but there are many potential must haves including Xenoblade, Splatoon, and Star Fox.

Doesn't have to be a major seller..  It's more important to have must have games which appeal to a variety of demographics. Xenoblade is a must have for JRPG fans for example. That game hits a very hardcore niche and will sell units to a different demographic than say Animal Crossing which hits the female demographic very strongly.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is a must have in my book.

Also, there will be plenty of future Wii U titles we don't know about yet.

XCX is definitely a must have. I'd say it's equal to Zelda. I mean, it's not selling the system like Zelda, but it's definitely in the same league when it comes to grand games.

Agreed^ I think Splatoon will be too. It looks like its going to be a hidden gem... Well maybe  not hidden but underselling gem :0

I wouldn't but Splatoon on the same pedistal as the former two. It's next year's Pikmin 3 or Tropical Freeze or W101. A little time waster. Who knows though. Maybe it will have enough depth and content to be the next big thing. I think it has the potencial to be in the same league as Mario Kart and Smash., for sure. But it will need a shit ton of maps, a shit ton of game modes, a shit ton of weapons, and toughest of all, a shit ton of financial success. It's an online game. It's worthless without an audience. There's also a AAA feel to those games that Splatoon absolutely does not seem have. It's the sound track, the level design, and the models. There's a feeling that the former cost a lot that the latter doesn't have.

And Nintendo is losing out bigtime by only offering 2 player local multiplayer. Splatoon looses a lot of appeal when it looks like a typical Nintendo party game, but doesn't play like one.
