Out of those, it's FF but the third Spyro looked gorgeous for a PS1 game. I just played that last night and couldn't get over just how much Insomniac got out of that hardware.

Unfortunately I missed out on the great ps1 Gen Because I Foolishly Had Only An n64 '_'

I would say Final Fantasy.. I highly doubt Tony Hawk had much impact on the PSX's sales.. :/

What pushed the PS1 more was variety. And it pretty much shaped the core of what is sony first party today. The PS was a mascotless console, not cause it didn't have notable characters but cause it had lots of notable characters in many different genres.

When I thin or remember the PS1, I don't just think of FF7/MGS. I think , Cloud, Squall, Ashely Riot, Snake, Crash, whatever car is on the GT cover, Spyro, Gabriel Logan, Musashi, wipeout, tony hawk, tekken, RE, silent hill.....etc.

There were lots of reasons to buy a PS.

piracy.

well, at least here in the middle east it did. lol

Why no Crash?

On that list I'd say MGS but over all crash bandicoot followed by spyro and GT.

It wasn't a particular game that you specifically found to be your favorite. It was what was easiest for developers and consumers alike.

Sure, games play a big part of it, but, there is no single game that contributes to 100 million console sales on it's own.

The big deal was that discs were cheaper than carts. Saturn was more expensive than the PS1. Had Nintendo 64 gone with discs, PSX would not have done as well as it did. It's CD player abilities, while not the first console to allow this, was a big deal too, as it did more than play games.

And your post, and subject title are of no relation.

Probably Final Fantasy, FF7 and FF8 both sold more than MGS and Tony Hawk and FF9 was just under MGS' total sales.
