Facts are still a bit scant, so there might have been overreaction by the cops. But really, this kid may qualify for the Darwin Awards if he did indeed pull what to all intents and purposes looked to be a firearm on the cops.

Regardless of the circumstances that is a truly horrible thing to suggest. This is a child who made a stupid mistake while his parents weren't watching, not an idiot who killed themselves in a stupid, comical way by ignoring common sense. How many children go around thinking they are going to get shot and killed.

You think the circumstances of anyone's death is comical? That's truly horrible.

I take the Darwin Awards seriously. Every Darwin Awardee's death is a sad tragedy, but from an evolutionary perspective their deaths benefit the species because they were prevented from procreating.

Don't give me that crap. That is called black humor/comedy.

The Darwin Awards are a tongue-in-cheek honor, originating in Usenet newsgroup discussions circa 1985. They recognize individuals who have supposedly contributed to human evolution by self-selecting themselves out of the gene pool via death orsterilization by their own actions.

black comedy (or dark comedy) is a comic work that employs black humor, which, in its simplest form, is humor that makes light of subject matter usually considered taboo. Black humor corresponds to the earlier concept of gallows humor.

I am all for preventing dangerously stupid, violent, sociopathic people from breeding; though I'd prefer it didn't happen by their deaths. Sometimes I think being required to have a licence to breed is a damned fine idea.

Hitler had the same idea, its called Eugenics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics

This wasn't comical, but it was stupid and ignoring common sense. Common sense says you do not wave something that looks exactly like a real gun at a cop, and to do so is stupid in the extreme.

The only people in the actual Darwin award books is of people who die in really stupid ways. Doesn't matter if you take it seriously, it is meant to be comical lest it would include more serious deaths.

Kids are stupid, he was 12 years old, it doesn't matter how stupid you think he was you can't summarize his life into a momementary mistake. Common Sense is relative, and you clearly do not understand the mindset of a child and how its different from an adult who common sense can reasonably apply to.

Children do to horrible mistakes all the time and this incident is no different. And your just digging yourself into a deeper hole trying to defend that statement.

Idk about some of you but I know when I was 12 I knew guns were serious business and not something to be joked about or played with. The kid did have a lapse of common sense. That or he was just not that bright to begin with.

Yeah I was aware of the danger of firearms in my single digit years.

The way he was acting sticking it into peoples faces obviously made the person ring the cops to come out and stop him, and they did. Very unfortunate but if it was really obvious that it was just a kid with a gun then who ever it is rang the cops could have just went up to him and took it off him.

Obviously a shame it happened like this because as a kid I've played with toy guns myself... but yeah never really shoved one in someones face while they walked the full lenght of a footpath stopping them like that, and from the sounds of it he removed a portion to make it look more like a real gun? some orange marking thing meant to be on the barrel to show it's a toy? bad idea, bad parenting to let him go out and play with something that looked like that.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Yeah most toy guns have an orange tip because some of made to look extremely realistic, and need some kind of a sign that they're toys.  It's important to note that this wasn't just a toy, this was an air-soft gun, why a 12 year old was brandishing it at people in the first place is beyond me.

Death is a sad thing but that kid seriously asked for it.

...but the police are stupid as well, they pulled right up to the kid and shot him without hesitation. At that rate the cops should've just hit the kid with the car at a speed that not fatal but enough to knock the kid to the ground and then run out of the car to hold the kid down.

This isn't like the movies at all but worst. Shouldn't cops know better to stop their car a good distance away and then step out of their vehicle to do their talking business?

Everythings seems ok here...if anyones to blame it the parents for letting their kid run around town with a gun. Fake or not

If that's how those policemen handle situations such as this one then I hope they lose their jobs asap. This is some extreme incompetence right here. Not only did they resort to violence way to quickly but they also put themselves in a risky situation by driving so close to the suspect. They obviously saw the kid as a serious threat, so why in the world didn't they keep their distance? If the gun had been real this situation could just as well have ended with two dead officers.

exactly

ofcourse the kid put himself into mortal danger by pointing what looked like a real gun at people, but the way those cops handled the situation in my opinion was outright nuts
