So, the battle of 8th gen consoles in Japan is between the PS4 and the WiiU, right now the difference between the two is at around 1.18m in favor of the WiiU, no need to remind you that the WiiU was released there two years ago while the PS4 was released there this February.

As far as games go, WiiU probably has more Japanese oriented software, for a brief list, the Japanese oriented WiiU games:

- New Super Mario Bros. U

- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

- Mario Kart 8

PS4 doesn't really have any just yet, however the future holds some great Japanese oriented games, such as:

- Dragon Quest Heroes (also on PS3)

- Bloodborne

- The Final Fantasy XV Demo (With a free Vita HD upgrade!)

WiiU on the other hand:

- Super Smash Bros (also on 3DS)

- Xenoblade X

- Splatoon?

PS4 is also likely to get some good third party support from Japan.

Anywho, when do you guys think the PS4 will claim its throne in Japan?

Its rather difficult for me to say, but let me do you an example.

Let's say that starting next week PS4 starts averaging 20k per week, while WiiU starts averaging exactly 0k.

If that were the case it'll take the PS4 around 59 weeks to match WiiU, a year usually lasts around 53 weeks, so maybe early 2016?

Sometime in 2015 when Final Fantasy comes out

At the end of 2015 assuming FFXV comes out next year.

When FFXV/KH3 and MGS V come out

Like i said before the thing was released, PS4 will do this before 2016 has begun.

I'd say late Q3 or early Q4 2015. It will actually take a while based on the fact that PS4 simply hasn't taken off at all in Japan.

Probably holyday 2015, highly depending on AA devs support in 2015.

I really don't think it's gonna catch up to the Wii U by the end of 2015, regardless of FFXV.

PS4 needs to outsell the Wii U by 1.2m to catch up. PS3 sold 1.8 million the year FFXIII came out. That was its best year in Japan, and it was a console that was selling quite better than PS4 anyway, FF or not.

Realistically, I don't think we can expect more than 1.5m for PS4 next year. That would mean Wii U would have to sell less than 300k for it to catch up, and that's too poor even for Wii U.

I do think PS4 is gonna end up outselling Wii U though. Third party support and much longer legs ensure that. Next year is going to start very strong too.

I'm gonna say H2 2016. I can't be much more precise than that.
