Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Boss: "You Will See JRPGs On Xbox One"

Unless it's timed exclusive I don't think Japanese devs will agree to an exclusive RPG on the Xbox One after what happened with the 360. Every RPG developer that was paid to release a game exclusive to the 360 abandoned the console sometime after because of the lack of sales. Compare this to the PS3 where Sony didn't pay for any RPGs and the developers still profited on their products.

Not Square Enix, though.

Because clearly Final Fantasy won't sell enough on the 360 to warrant a release.

I was thinking more on the lines of Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant, even if the later released on PC.

Infinite Undiscovery was originally announced as a Microsoft published title, so it's one of the titles paid for by Microsoft(along with Star Ocean.)  The Last Remnant was multiconsole on the PS3 and 360, but was cancelled on the PS3.  After hearing how poorly it runs on the 360, you can probably guess why.

So yeah.  I knew what you meant, and the games sold poorly on the 360, so they didn't go back to developing another 360 exclusive.

*edit*

I would have rather had Infinite Undiscovery than Star Ocean The Last Hope.  Star Ocean The Last Hope is garbage.  Although I may or may not be saying the opposite if I played Infinite Undiscovery.  The only tri Ace games I've played that I've liked were Star Ocean 1 and 2, everything else has been crap, including the highly praised extremely overrated Valkyrie Profile.

Hopefully Lost Odyssey 2!!!

Let it happen Phil.

I bought a 360 specifically for LO. If a LO2 game ever happens, insta X1 buy for me.

Meh, its too late for them to even bother down that path. Get the big ones FFXV and KH3 but otherwise theres no real point.

If your interest in JRPGs theres no way you're not gonna pick a PS4. If MS want some of that Market they have to make a dent at the beginning of next gen.

It barely been a year, how is it too late?

Based on MS's recent strategy, if we haven't seen it yet, it probably isn't coming to til 2017.

Huh? They've already confirmed that they were working with Japanese devs on new RPGs and games, so not sure why it has to be 2017. PS4 is in the same boat too really, with only a few JRPGslike Persona 5 coming anytime soon.

Either way, most major JRPGs on the One will be marketed towards western audiences, since the console has no foothold in Japan. I wouldn't count out games like Lost Odyssey or Star Ocean.

Yeah, FFXV and KHIII are given, I wonder what else will make the cut seeing that Japanese don't like Xbone. A Blue Dragon update would be cool though.

Japanese not liking Xbone wouldn't be a problem for devs with an exclusivity deal. It's more likely just brand loyalty from the devs themselves

except if they use " $ " and make it exclusive.  that kind of move is what i really hate from Microsoft even the games will not sales a lot on their consoles and piss a lot PS gamer. I hope it's not happen thou, one console is anough to play JRPG on the powerful platform (well 2 platform if people like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Zelda )

Every company does that. It's important cause you will of course make less sales by not releasing on multiple platforms. The problem here is that the devs do not make games big enough to go multiplat', and they are used to dealing with sony.

Well not if your platform leading in sales especially software sales, not even in PS1 and PS2 era (if it was happen back then then FF X should be on Xbox original as well, but it doesn't), and it all begin in 360 era, and like it or not PS3 has to follow the route. So everything has a begining, thanks God PS3 turn the tide and PS4 did the finishing, at least the nex gen Xbox will never be as wild as in 360 era.

FF XV and KH 3 xbox one exclusive confirmed!

please be excited!!
