Because the World Cup is the biggest spoting event in the world? Bigger than the olympics even.

Incidentally this wont mean they end their links with UEFA.

Its about time UEFA withdrew it support of FIFA and let it die a horrible, slow and painful death.

Completely agree with you. Champions League advertising generates much more brand exposure than the World Cup. Hopefully the rumors of UEFA nations boycott of WC2018 in Russia are true...

I hate this comparisons between the World Cup, Superbowl and Olympics
All thee are the biggest in theire own category. Does not make any sense to say that one is bigger than that, because u can always point out a part, where ur wrong and the other event is bigger.

If the UEFA cut loose form FIFA would be great

I meant be associated with FIFA, not the World Cup. But IT IS all they have. If the world cup ends, so does FIFA.

I'm not hoping that they pull Qatar and Russia. Far from it, I'm hoping they keep the rights but no teams turn up. Now that would be funny... Extremely unlikely yes, but funny as hell.

I'm sure Sony might be happy to be once again associated with a World Cup where FIFA isnt involved.

If there's no FIFA, theres no World cup, simple as that

Yeah but, FIFA world cup final match is usually being watched by literally 1 billion+ people in the world. No other sports even comes close to that, or any other type of event that I know of.

To me there are three major categories and within those categories in sport three clear dominant forces globally.

Summer Olympics - Biggest general athletics competition

FIFA World Cup - Biggest single national sport tournament

UEFA Champions League - Biggest club sport tournament

After that big drop off to Winter Olympics, Rugby and Circket World Cups and then various club sport competitions.

Yes, but to get to the finals you have to endure watching losers like Cameroon, Iran, Bosnia or Croatia to finally see one or two decent matches in which the host nation doesn't get blown up 7:1...

It's like watching the men's rhythmic gymnastics qualifiers in the Olympics...
