Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 hard drive question

I rencently got far cry 4 and evil within and as a result, i would need to find some space. I was wondering with the ps4, can you transfer the game to an external hard drive and use it as a stroage?  Then when you wnat to play the game, just transfer it back  to the ps4?

Nope! You can, however, but any standard 2.5", 7.5mm SATA drive and install that yourself. I put in a 960GB Crucial M500 solid state drive in mine on day one last November, and it has been great. But even with that much storage space, I'm still down to below 400GB of free space in just one year :(

ah crap. cause at the moment with my xbox one i have a 3tb  external hard drive attached to it. was going to use that i f i coul dfofr the ps4 lol. i  am trying to delay it until sony allows for external ahrd drive usage as it can't be hard too implement it. its cheaper to buy an external hard drive then having to buy internal one.i manage to delte all the beta and demo and deleted warframe and war thunder to make space :D. Yea i know. i finished all my xbox one hard drive storage in 4 months of having it lol .

An internal harddrive is cheaper + you don't have to mess with cables, and don't have to have your external drive all the time there

I bought a 2bg harddrive and done. No problems :)

I have a ways to go before my PS4 and Xbox One are full but I wish they would just go the Wii U route.

Looking at your post, does the Xbox One allow HDD support now? I didn't even know

XOne allows external HDD support, however trying to change the internal HDD will void your warranty (and require you to dismantle half the console).

I'm okay with external!  Thanks for the info.

Just deleting games you haven't played for a while could work. PS4 installs so fast that it wouldn't even cause much of a problem when you want to go back to them.

one question though. if you switch the hard drives. what happens to all the games and saves stored on the old har drive? do i have to save to cloud before chaning it or ae all the saves automatically save in the cloud for you ?
