Watch Dogs shifts almost no copies on its Wii U launch

In news that has shocked nobody, GFK has released information on sales numbers for the recent week of Wii U software. Dominating the list is Mario Kart 8 and New Super Mario Bros. U, with Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric squeezing in an unlikely third from unfortunately unknowing parents and grandparents. The biggest reveal from the charts is that Watch Dogs has placed 14th, failing to even make it into the top 10 on its launch week.

Nobody expected Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs to do well, but 14th is even lower than anyone would have thought. However, it is around as low as the game deserves. It was released 6 months after all other versions of the game, and lacks most of the DLC that other systems have received.

Ubisoft recently announced that Watch Dogs would be their last mature game on the Nintendo Wii U, citing poor sales as their reason for ditching the platform. Given the poor performance of the game, that holds water until you consider that another recently released mature game, Bayonetta 2, placed first on the console in its launch. Oh, and it still managed to beat Watch Dogs, placing 11th a month after its launch on the system.

Maybe Ubisoft should stop blaming the system for poor sale numbers and instead realise that Nintendo gamers aren’t just children. We’re able to tell when a game release is delayed, poorly made and lacking content. For more Nintendo news, stay tuned to Pixel Dynamo.

Mediocre game released 6 months late at full price, after the hype train had crashed, been decommissioned, and sold as scrap. And right before Smash.
There was no way this was ever going to sell well.

NOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAYYY

Welp, it really isn't that surprising at all... Why would anyone buy essentially the "slightly better version of the last gen game" 6 months later when a) There are next gen versions available b) Anyone that wanted to get it would have gotten it already! Sure, there are some here and there but overall, it was truely doomed to fail but of course Ubisoft will not blame it on the late release, instead, they will blame it on other nonsense.

At least on the bright side, the wiiU will have one less whiner

Spare me. I played it. Its fare from mediocre. Nintendo consumerist habits have been trained not to buy shit third party from Nintendo or buy it elsewhere. Its not a logical pool for anyone who is a fan of third party. Ubisoft should cut the chord.

There is no next gen version of the game. Its a cross platform title. Its not pushing anything but last gen platforms.

There were some on here expecting a million lifetime or some ridiculous crap LOLOLOL

Anyway, this is based on UK charts, so.....

For comparisons sake.

Mass Effect 2 was released in PS3 one year later of Xbox 360 and PC.

Xbox 360 sales: 3.06 million.

PS3 sales: 1.39 million.

Its true third party games tend to sell less in Nintendo platform.

Uhh that is most certainly NOT true. It's definitely pushing the wii u and pushed the ps4 as well.
