They have plenty of respect for you when you do not break the law.

Laughably untrue in the case of the Ferguson PD. Did you not pay attention to how those thugs conducted themselves after the shooting?

Yes, they did horrid things to those peaceful protestors.

What makes you think that? There have been MULTIPLE times I have not borken the law but have got pulled over stopped when walking with my friends or brothers and questioned just for the heck of it. I have been talked down to for asking why was I stopped if I have not done anything wrong....what makes you feel that they have plenty of respect for you when you have not borken the law?

Mr Khan said that respect is earned and it will be by keeping to the law this authority upholds. Just like in school you don't talk back to teachers, you do the homework and you won't get put in detention.

I'm sorry if you got stopped for no reason but maybe it wasn't 'just for the heck of it' for these Officers that stopped you, maybe they are looking for someone just they don't mention who so not to create a worse situation. Be polite, answer their questions. Being annoyed at the situation, answering back, just makes it look like you've got something to hide when you haven't. If you are polite, the people may get to know you, they'll start to respect you and they'll know you don't need to be stopped.

Maybe this is an idyllic way of looking at things and I'm naive on the situation having not dealt with it.

Oh I am always by polite that is just my normal nature. Doesn't mean that it doesn't bother me to be stopped for no reason what so ever. And I agree they could have been looking for someone but I doubt they were looking for someone every single time I was stopped. Heck a few times we were stopped it was back in high school during cross country practice and we had just got done running like 7 miles so we took a break and were walking. It is after school in full day light and we are stopped and questioned. My coach even got upset because he saw it once and scolded the officers.

Now I know lots of officers that I know and respect adn others that I know and DO NOT respect because of the way they conduct themselves. It is a situation to situation basis. But I definitely understand where you are coming from!

Moral of the story: RESPECT authority

Even when authority has no respect for you?

Respect is to be earned, not given.

That's a bit of a blanket statement but yeah respect the police and they will respect you in return.  Do u have any idea the amount of shit they deal with on a daily basis?  Their job requires them to deal with shit heads every day and put their well being on the line.  If you or any of these cop haters had any idea then maybe you would show a little respect.

It makes their conduct understandable, but not excusable. Just because you have a tough job doesn't mean you get to be racists, corrupt, or trigger-happy screaming nuts (and in the case of Ferguson PD, none of this is hyperbole, sadly)

There are a few bad apples in all professions, however the vast majority of police officers are not any of those things.  I urge you to look at all the facts released, remove any biases, then form your own opinion.  It's way too easy in today's media crazed world to jump on and ride the wave of ignorance.

Sigh...

My friend was stuck in traffic for 3 hours because people decided to block up the Shoreway here in Cleveland...Ambulances couldn't get to the hospitals downtown and it was pretty much a disaster. Now apparently people want to Boycott and protest Black Friday. Itll never happen, but I am going to have a bad night if people try stopping me from going into work because they wanna protest.

Same deal down in San Diego. Fortunately, my flight is later tonight and traffic won't affect me.

We talked about that in class and debated whether protests like these are able to send a bigger message and allow the impact into people's daily lives vs alienating people and making them against a cause further as it negatively affects their life and they don't see the big picture of it.

It for sure puts more people against their cause. I am sure the people in those first responders who were stuck won't be too sympethtic to their cause. Or people picking up their loved ones or people who have personal life emergencies. However someone brought up a good point here. If we arrested each protestor blocking the Shoreway and fined them $250 each we would have enough money to give the entire Cleveland Police Force body cameras. What I wish all officers had honestly.
