Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rise of the Tomb Raider - timed exclusive actually a big deal.

Microsoft is trying to have Rise of Tomb Raider go up against Uncharted 4 with this timed exclusive deal.

I previously had not played the new Tomb Raider game and felt that no Tomb Raider could ever compare to Uncharted. But fast forward this weekend where I played over 20hours and finished Tomb Raider Difinitive Edition. The game is freakin amazing. I hope that the money received from the timed exclusive really helps development of Rise of Tomb Raider and they improve an already great formula.

Rise of The Tomb Raider may not be as epic as Uncharted 4 but Crystal Dynamic does have a franchise that will at least rival Naughty dogs and especially for Xbox One owners they have a title thats comparable to Uncharted 4 next Holiday. Microsoft deal for a timed exclusive now peg PS4's Uncharted 4 vs Xbox One's Rise of the Tomb Raider during Holiday 2015. The deal might only be timed exclusive but as far as Holiday 2015 Rise of the Tomb Raider will be compared to Uncharted 4.

It's a win/win deal for both console owner.... PS4 get a great game after they finished playing Uncharted 4 and Xbox One owners get an improved version of Tomb Raider (extra $$$ for development) that can compare to the PS4's Uncharted during Holiday 2015.

Its cross gen. Coming to Xbox 360 also. And yes. TR might be good. But ND will make sure UC4 stands out of the copletition.

I remember that when Tomb Raider came out, I wasn't the least interested in it and didn't want to buy it. My brother did buy it, and I got around to play it. I liked the game and the free roaming around the island was impressive, but it's no Uncharted. Microsoft can attempt to compete against Uncharted, but I doubt Rise of the Tomb Raider will make the long lasting effect as the latter.

From the time it was announced at E3 to the time it finally released, the Tomb Raider reboot got some bad vibes from people calling it an Uncharted rip off. There were some similarities but really, it was a different beast. I actually preferred it to Uncharted and a lot of people that disliked it changed their minds when they got it for free.

Tomb Raider is awesome! Was my most anticipated game as soon as it was announced at E3 (along with Batman) and it deserves to be a big deal. I got it for 360, PS3, PS4, and I'm considering getting it for $20 on Xbox One! I love it.

Not the best of ideas considering that a lot of Tomb Raider's fanbase is on Playstation and that DE was best on PS4, not to mention it IS going up against Uncharted and being a cross gen multiplat vs a current gen exclusive its going to get decimated.
However, MS really doesn't have any alternatives because they have no real counters, with the exception of Halo 5 which is probably going to have to counter all of the PS4s exclusives at this point.
Personally, I think timed exclusivity is a terrible reason to get a console ESPECIALLY with this embargo buggy release bullshit as of late, why in the hell would you want to get a game first is beyond me.

So I guess its a biggish deal, but I doubt it will have very much payout. To be honest, I'd rather Square get burned for this, and honestly, it doesn't really hurt MS in any way so I'm actually for it. If SE wants to take EA's title from Ubisoft, be my guest.

It's a win/win situation...I don't know what kind of mental gymnastic you did to come to that conclusion. It just means PS4/PS3 and even PC fans will have to just wait out because MS was too lazy to make their own blockbuster, action-adventure bonanza and figured "Hey, we got a lot of money. Let's throw it at CD"

Granted, there won't be any "riots" or boycotts (i sure hope not) We will eventually get the game and I think we can wait like grown adults. I probably sound salty (I am, a bit.) but I get it, it's all business. The first TR was really damn good, I enjoyed my time from start to finish, although the support cast were cannon fodder at one point unlike Uncharted's stronger supporting cast.

Yes, a large part that will ignore it if it released alongside UC4. At least now MS fans are more likely to buy it because their are fanboys who buy games purely to support their console of choice and being UC4's main rival they will be there in force. Then come its PS4 release people will have already played UC4 and will be ready to accept RotTR.

Sure for some such as myself who love TR and dont care for UC its a loss but hey with the marketing from MS and the extra cash hopefully it only helps TR grow.

Yes UC4 will win and we all know it, but TR has put itself in a better position now to sell more copies. It really has nothing to do with UC4 sales, Im sure SQEX dont care what UC4 does aslong as RotTR sells above expectations.

It's also coming to 360 so it in no way will compare to a fully next-gen Uncharted 4.
Even if it was XBO exclusive though, it can't compete with Uncharted. Just look up the sales of the newest Tomb Raider and Uncharted here on VgChartz. The remaster sold particularly bad on the XBO.
