Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why Is Microsoft Panicking?

Microsoft panicking LMFBMFAO... I think I haven't laughed that much at a flame bait post in while. Not only the very idea of one of the biggest most profitable business machine in the world panicking because a relatively small branch of said machine is not doing better than the competition while sill pulling more than decent numbers is completely and simply ridiculous.
The very concept of human emotion in a corporation is quite laughable imo

That being said all the naysayers talking about 3rd party support dropping is just as ridiculous... It would be like if devs stop doing apps for iOS because android has 80% of the market... Being second even by a lot doesn't mean you don't have a big install base that warrant supporting it. Not supporting XBO for 3 party will mean not earning a shit tin of money regardless of how dominating PS4

So yeah XBO and MS are doing just fine... Stop believing they give an emotions fuck about the console war, sure they'd rather be first like any business, but that's about it the rest is just call business strategy no panicking or desperation in corporation like MS that pull quarter after quarter enough revenue to purchase Sony every semester almost... Please....

More likely they took a look at the ratio of lookers to buyers on the XBL store and didn't like what they were seeing. Lowering the price gets lookers off the sidelines, especially while the game is new.

Microsoft has panicked at the sight of Sony numerous times resulting in many quick moves rather than well thought out ones. Read up on it. History will teach you the lesson. Sony will always  have them on their toes. In fact they would never have been in the industry if it wasnt for Sony, so there is another thing to add to the list.

I think the OP only meant that the Xbox management was panicking not the whole of MS.

And its not hard to think that they are. In one year they've dropped the price by $150 and are still losing to PS4 in America.  They are also doing badly everywhere else except the UK. I would think that they would actually be pretty worried considering how they are doing everything they can to beat the PS4 whilst Sony isn't even trying right now.

This is fanboyism at it's worst. A company drops prices and all the OP is worried about is how it will be percieved. Enjoy the savings!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

The end of the world a la Nintendoom all over again.

Fanboy : Your not number one in console sales, you are doom man give it up.

MS : Sir I'm making profit and my install base is growing month after month.

Fanboy : Tss, Tss, your not the number one you are a looser and should giving up in making console man!!!

When the internet exploded because Microsoft paid to keep Tomb Raider from Sony and PC, Phil Spencer had to do damage control and admitted that they tried to make a game on par with Uncharted multiple times and failed, so this was their only option to make it seem like they had something to do battle with Uncharted next year. Apparently Halo 5 wasn't enough for them.

"Phil Spencer: Totally. I'm a big fan of Uncharted and I wish we had an action adventure game of that ilk. We've started some, and we've looked at them. But we don't have one today of that quality. This is an opportunity.

People push me as the content guy, shouldn't it all be about the content you're building? I want to own all of the hits on our platform. Well, not all of them - that's too much. But I want to have a stable of hits on our platform that we own. Absolutely. That's fundamental to us having a successful platform. When a unique opportunity comes up, I've got to go look at that. And this was a unique opportunity.

People have asked me before about IP we own, and they'll say, you own all the IP you publish. I'm explicit about it: that's a goal but there will be situations where we don't, and we've talked about those. Ryse is a situation where we don't own the IP."

You put more spin on words than ex-Iraqi Minister of Information.

Xbox didn't develop or attempt to do any Action/Adventure game during the X360 era. The only one that would fit that genre would be Kameo, which is more platformer than action.

To say that they "they tried to make a game on par with Uncharted multiple times and failed", is to have a situation like Sony's attempt to find a Halo killer. Now you can talk.

Name games made by MS that were aimed at replicating Uncharted success?

If dropping prices in holiday seasons is panicking, Steam must've been a nervous wreck for years now.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Considering how underwhelming it sold, I don't think they got much to lose.

Do you know what this means? Lets start from the top:

"I'm a big fan of Uncharted and I wish we had an action adventure game of that ilk"

Translation: I wish we had a game on level with Uncharted or anything like it.

"We've started some, and we've looked at them."

Translation: We worked on some projects like it and they looked at them for quality.

"But we don't have one today of that quality."

Translation: FAIL!

"This is an opportunity."

Translation: This is the reason why we paid for timed exclusivity of Tomb Raider, since we have nothing in that genre.

Get over it and enjoy your Xbox like the rest of us.
