Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbone fails to outsell Ps4 despite biggest launch of year

SSO is a niche game which Sony matches with Infamous and MCC had a disastrous launch.

I don't think MS are very worried, they are focusing on getting back their most important markets, and there is where you are finding their momentum right now. They have already passed the WiiU, are outselling the 360, and matching PS4 world wide weekly sales. This means, that if MS continues to play their cards right, next holiday will be even bigger. Oh, and the gaming and devices division is making a profit as well :).

And still, the Ps4 managed to outsell the Xbone this week.

I'd seriously be very worried if I were in the Xbox camp.

Why?  It's not like anyone is expecting XB1 to take 1st place this gen.

Overall the XB1 is selling a lot better than the Wii pU.

My 8th gen collection

I'm genuinely convinced that nothing will "save" the Xbox One at this point. There's been so many things we thought would.

Titanfall? Nope
Remove Kinect? Nope
Any game for free? Nope
China? Nope
Halo MCC? Nope
Another price cut? Well... This one had a bigger effect than I expected.
Next up: Halo 5

But regarding the price cut, let's not forget that Sony hasn't dropped the PS4's price at all yet, in any region. Any lost ground from the Xbox One's price cut will instantly be made back up once Sony announces the PS4's first official price cut. And if the Xbox One goes back to $400 in 2015, it will tank HARD. (This is why I think it's more likely that Microsoft will keep the price cut permanent)

The only place where Xbox One stands a chance anymore is the US and UK. Even in these regions, I find it unlikely that it'll overtake the PS4's lifetime sales.

The thing is, Microsoft doesn't give up easily on anything they do. We can expect MS to keep trying with these sorts of deals, for at least another year or two.

I believe Microsoft is more concerned with flipping a profit. Xbox One just needs to make money, and it seems the console is finally looking favorable by consumers. Meanwhile at Sony they are just hoping they can still afford the electricity bill.

Besides 3rd party games are the money makers and console sellers. First party is just used to differentiate the two.

Hyrperbole incoming: This bolded sentence makes, quite literally, zero sense.

If the two products are the same given third party software then how does the first party that differentiates them not matter and sway console sales?

Your entire post is at odds with itself. It starts off with a veiled conceit that the important thing for MSFT is simple profit not growth, then immediately jumps to consumer perception, then randomly ignores the games division at sony making a profit and extrapolates Sony Corps struggles and implies the games division is somehow responsible for their mobile division catastrophic losses.

You really could have just said "So, MSFT makes more money" and been done with it rather than post contradicting, unsubstantial sentences.

In regards to bolded that was in reply to sales statement about how Xbox one has had in his opinion the better games yet Ps4 still continues to trump it. The 3rd party games are going to be the biggest selling points but than games like uncharted and halo will give gamers a reason to go with one console in particular.

And yes let's look at the bigger picture... in rainbow land im sure everything is nice and peachy for Sony. But in essence they are in financial ruin which won't be sustainable for long.  Sony has no choice but to be in first place in terms of consoles and software. Microsoft on the other hand just needs their console to make money to give shareholders a reason to continue funding the Xbox division. OP is implying xbox is doomed since it's not selling 50 million consoles a week like ps4

It might not matter that much from a growing the xbox business standpoint but I think it does matter if the objective is to win xbox versus playstation. It's not going to happen this gen. But i do believe they will grow to have a larger install base for xbox one than xbox 360. Whether or not they make any money off xbox this gen remains to be seen since they've been having to invest heavily into purchasing gamers with their recent price drop.

When will people learn that MS doesn't want to outsell PS4 globally. It's doing just fine and everyone is satisfied by the great numbers it's been doing so far. But leave it to certain fans to pretend as if there was some kind of competition going on.

What still remains to be seen is if this gen has a similar sales curve to the previous gen. Both systems are off to an amazing start and if it has the same curve as last gen then look out they are going to post some massive numbers. However, could also be that they are peaking early when they came out with lower price points than last gen. Last gen also lasted a long time so gamers were really craving something new and jumped in earlier. Late gen you saw ps4 really pick up some more casual users near the end with their blu ray player and xbox did the same with kinect. I don't know what they will be offering that audience to convince them to jump in again. Apple TV may very well be a game console by then.

The X1 doesn't need the world. They only need the US, UK and China!

The rest aren't even worth mentioning.

Price it at $300...Xbox one wins.
