Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fortune: Once left for dead, Nintendo expects best holiday season in years - Pachter now says Wii U could turn around!?

Good to hear!
Still have a ways to climb but clearly it's heading in the right direction lately :)

If people just wait for Nintendo's games to be released they'll see it become profitable. They wrote it off before its major games were released.

I really hate this journalistic approach to the videogame market as a race for #1. We can have industries with dozens and dozens of successful brands - vehicles, toys, movies, music etc, but not videogames? The market necessarily needs to have only one or two dominating companies and a bunch of losers? Why not having three or more good companies?
This is specially annoying in a moment when, despite what sales numbers suggest, every main console maker is having troubles. Sony - as a whole company - counts huge losses year after year and the home videogame division seems to be the only healthy one. Microsoft shareholders already suggested the sale of the videogame division ( a hint that it may not be profitable as people think). Nintendo can´t sell enough home consoles despite excellent software and his handheld division is facing fierce competition from mobiles/tablets.

As long as Nintendo is making profits and keeping a stable financial situation, they will be just fine this generation.

Looking at the raw numbers, sales of hardware for both Wii u and 3Ds don t look very good and sales of Wii U software are terrible- better than last year-yes but we all know last years comps were anemic. They still may struggle to hit their 3.6 million ( previously believed to be overly conservative) hardware goal for this fiscal year ( hopefully Smash bros will get it for them over the holiday)

Nintendo should make an annual profit this year ( not sure if it will be an operating profit or not) and they may make a profit next year. This year they have clearly put profitability as their goal a head of market share which is why they have not done a price cut and also why their hardware sales are still weak
Next fiscal year I assume they will push market share a little more and do a price cut but they will be paying more for Wii u inventory next fiscal year too so who knows - they may decide to forget market share altogether and continue to focus on profit -
After 2015 they will be in a very difficult position again - 3ds will continue to slow, the Wii u will be past its prime and they will need to be doubling down on investment for the following generations of both handheld and home consoles -
I wonder Partchers Amiibo sales predictions will be close - He seemed positive about them

Nintendo will have to make a bit of a move on market share at some point. If not, public perception of the console as a complete failure could kill any chance of the U living up to its, now limited, sales potential (20m). Microsoft may have even baited them into a price drop this year, had the projections for Smash and amiibo looked grim.

As it is, Ninty isn't going to pass up their best chance at bringing home some serious bacon in a long while. This winter should give them enough financial padding that they can justify a price drop to get more consoles into homes before Zelda hits the market next year. They've let Microsoft take the lead (for the long haul now, I would expect) in exchange for making money -- a novel idea in the console market these days, it seems.

As long as Nintendo finds a way to make money, they will still be making new games. As a fan, that's what really matters. With as high an attach rate as their first-party titles have, even as little as 12-14m consoles in homes by the time Zelda (and Star Fox) come to town could mean massive software sales. This is, of course, assuming that Splatoon, Mario Maker, Kirby, Yoshi, Devil's Third, and Xenoblade Chronicles X all fail to make an impact whatsoever.

Patcher thinks WiiU will have a good Holiday?

That is it! Nintendo is going full Sega now.

Pachter is going to get credit for this prediction because of the holiday.
I'm rooting for Nintendo but not you Pachter.

I'm telling you Nintendo is going to rock this holiday man.

They are making the right moves. People don't realize is that this is a marathon not a sprint. Nintendo should know they've been in it longer than almost anybody else....

When I hear about Pachter predicting about Nintendo, I always think something like this

And I don't like that smile!

I'm pretty sure a marathon is a race.
