yea sick of hearing that.  Yes lots of people play games on their phone, however it's only for boring moments.  The ones not going to buy in are the same ones that wouldn't have anyway.

I assume we're comparing first years of the respective consoles, in which case the Wii was not available during the 360's first year.

A point well made, although I would think Xbox backlash and PS2 popularity would have hurt early 360 sales regardless. You are right though.
