Forums - Gaming Discussion - Being a gamer is not fun anymore

Being a dedicated gamer was fun at one point, most notably throughout PS2 and most of PS3 era.

Going on gaming websites, reading the news, articles, rumours, round-ups.

That feeling I had when I dedicated time outside of actually gaming to learning more about my hobby.

But now it's miserable, and I don't think I've read any proper news in weeks.
It's now a bunch of politics, depressing stories, biased journalism.
It's a shit-show with websites consistently quoting 'rumours' from 'sources' which are always never true (tidux anyone?)

It's anita sarka-whatever calling me a mysoginist for being a typical gamer.
It's telling me that the culture I support is dying (Polygon/Kotaku anyone?)

It's about a billion independant journalists asking for patreon funding.
It's Indie games are shit and not real games.
Its PS+ and XBL being bad value.

It's PS4 is crap. It's xbox one is crap.
Its people who have no business being in the gaming news being in the gaming news. (politics anyone?)

It's developers being 'harassed'
It's gamers are being stupid for asking (easily-ignorable) questions. (Kamiya anyone?)
It's 2 dimensional games are rubbish, and games are only good if they have a character in a 3d world

It's boring now. Depressing. I wanna quit.

I wanna play games and I wanna enjoy the stuff around it.
But it's so gloomy. The stuff outside of gaming is part of being a gamer.

But the term has been stolen by nazi's and translated to mean a whole lot different thing.
Gaming news is just annoying now, you can't see just good news, you have to be forced to see the depressing 'you hate wom3n cause you lik gmrgte'

Hug me?

EDIT: Adding more

It's resolution revealed on every game like it makes much of a difference anymore
It's a game that people work extremely hard on to be put down for having water.
It's that that game was made how the developer envisioned it.

It's that reviewers who have never made a game in their life can tell you how enjoyable it is within the space of 2 days of playing it.
It's outsiders telling us we're sexist, violent, and fat and have no life because we play cod.

It's last weeks best publisher is this weeks most hated.

Then step away from the web part of it. You'll have more time to play games and do other things if you do, so that's another bonus. You can also try using websites that typically don't have much in the way of negative crap like that on it.

That's because you don't play Nintendo...

Speak for yourself mate. My bro just got GTAV for the PS4, my sis picked up LBP3 (and we got 3 controllers available) and I just got a deal from gamefly for coming back after a hiatus ($1 for the first month) and I picked up Wolfenstein and will get Dragon age after it. I also finally got a smartphone (galaxy S4) and just realized how easy it is to play SNES game on it.

I am having a blast! You just gotta focus on the games. Reviews, "politics", rumors and the silly console wars become

Group hug...

Just play games you enjoy, and enjoy games you play...

Go to the websites only to find out release dates and watch some preview videos...

I thought this was pretty well written and overall i agree.  Im tired of people telling me what i should enjoy, instead id rather focus on what i do enjoy and see others enjoy talking about what we all enjoy.  Not to tell me i shouldnt, and that is the thing.  If your opinion differs people can get aggressive.  Journalism is often biased or nitpicky, and readers are more often than not overly agressive or like to downplay stuff

Just ignore the negative people. It does wonders
