the problem wit ecstasy nowadays is it's nearly no MDMA in it, but was the only psychoactive component when it got famous decades ago.
mdma would not cause these massive problems if you are handling it right.
the problem is that it's illegal and every stupid fuck can sell them, and nobody has the chance to know what is inside.
