Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does GTA 5's Sex With Prostitutes In First Person Promote Rape Culture? Does it go too far?

Meh. Movies and now games have been dealing with this forever. It's honestly boring...

The day you were born a man you been branded a rapist and pedophile so society already promotes it.

Can't piss of a girl cause she will claim rape.

Can't play with kids or have a camera on the beach cause you will be a pedo.

There is some grain of truth in what you said. But society also promotes the notion 'well she deserved it' and invalidating her claims. Shouldn't have be wearing that. Shouldn't have gotten drunk. Shouldn't have lead him on. Shouldn't have been alone. Should have reported it sooner.

Neither gender should have to put up with the bullshit they do, but everyone's too busy exclaiming how THEY have it so much worse than the other side they nothing gets resolved through all the whining and accusations, which only serves to create an even bigger divide and more resentment.

yes i think criticising women on what they wear is stupid however

if someone puts themselves in a dangerous situation with no regard for their safety... they are indeed responsible to some extent if something happens to them

this "victim blaming" nonsense is just one of many methods being used to take responsiblity away from women for their safety

which ironically objectifies them... if you are unable or unwilling to take responsiblity in any given scenario then you are taking the passive position of an object or a child who needs their parents to keep them safe

Woman are free to do what they want with their bodies, but man can't use her if she allows? Or if she claims she didn't want then it's rape? Crazy new world.

Jesus, why do we care so much about pixels sucking each other off, you can't even see any nudity! This sudden flurry of "feminists" and white knights are really getting on my nerves.

NO.

What it does is highlight the current existing culture so instead of trying to hide what's really happening in the real world try and change that. When prostitution is not a widespread thing then worry about virtual games.

And anyway this has been going on for thousands of years, it's pretty much ingrained in society by now.

That's pretty narrowminded, in my opinion. Yes, people SHOULD take responsibility for their safety, but most certainly does not mean that they are fair game if they don't. The actual blame lies solely on the perpetrator. If someone mugs you on the street, would you appreciate someone saying "Well, you should have been carrying mace."? Yes, mace could have prevented it, but the one who robbed you is the impetus for the crime, not your lack of mace.

I don't want to be a prude but they shouldn't have to put it in. I know it's an 18/M rated game but a lot of children play GTA.
My friend who never played GTA let his 8 year old son play GTA 4 until i showed him the game, he told me his son played GTA San An when he was 5. This will be some childs first encounter with sex. Not good in my opinion. Maybe they could release an edited version with no sex, blood and bad language for a younger audience.

I wonder if these comments would still happen if say GTA VI has a female lead. And you can do sex and kill men prostitutes.

I think the article was more of the mind that "this is promoting the idea that woman are just objects for pleasure" and not that "prositution = rape". I don't necessarily think either are completely accurate claims, but people being too knee-jerk and not reading the intended message.
