Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One Has Made The Most Remarkable Comeback In Video Game Industry History, Better Option Than PS4 In Holiday 2014

... said a site nobody heard of, ever.

The reactions after just 2 weeks of numbers is priceless.  Remind anyone of the recent "Wii U will keep 2nd, Xbox One is forever 3rd" euphoria?

PS3 was never outsold by X360 once PS3 launched in Europe. Is just that it launched 1 year later in USA/Jap and 15 months later in Europe. Is like to say PS2 always outsold Wii even in 2007-2010 because PS2 had more total sales than Wii......(it's an extreme example but you get my idea).

In PS4/XBO case, both launched the same month, and PS4 has sold much much better in the same timeframe than XBO and still does. There's no comparison between PS3 and XBO.

I do get your point :) and understand that the 360 was a year earlier, if I am looking right? the 360 was though the remainder of 2007 still outselling the PS3 quite a bit at stages even with the availability of the PS3 in Europe going by VGC? I am saying that looking at the overall figure as it stands now between the PS4 and X1 it is premature as it was also premature to look at the numbers the 360 was getting and what it's total was at the time, that was my comparison in a way. It was then and is now too early to declare a winner and any kind of comeback. The PS3 had a tough time and a mountain to climb imo for various reasons, a lot were tempted to think it was contest over and the 360 had it in the bag, yet it kept on and eventually ended up overtaking the 360.

The PS4 is doing amazing and with aligned launches it's so easy to compare, I just don't think you can delacre a winner or that there has been any kind of comeback yet.

Sony was chipping away at Microsofts previous years even from its launch at $600 dollars. The best way to make bigger profits is to outsell your LY. If your opponent is outselling your LY after being behind they are sure to catch up. MS is also lucky Sony turned down the Kinect because that saved them from Sony overtaking them in 2010.

Yeah even with all the issues, as you say with the PS3 it was increasing sales year on year over the 360's previous year it was constantly chipping away at the 360's lead, it was slow but inevitable I guess. Will be interesting to see where this gen ends up regarding sales.

As for kinect, amazing to think Sony could have taken it up, their loss was MS's gain for while, I think it helped re image the 360 in a way at the time, now kinect has had an adverse effect for MS. Thinking that maybe in hindsight it was fortunate that Sony didn't take it up?

Well the Kinect issue was because Sony was self sufficient and the guys at Project Natal weren't showing them anything they weren't already capable of doing themselves. The Eyetoy had already been doing what the Kinect had been doing years earlier, so Sony turned it down. They knew they had to create an add-on for the Kinect to help control the 3D environment while traversing through it without being on rails. Sony considered their first Eyetoy to be a glorified mini-game camera, which is essentially how they percieved the Kinect desipite its success.

The gaming media is cruel and vicious sometime. They will take a particular console and a prevailing opinion and totally crush a company. The Super Nintendo, Dreamcast, PS3, and Wii U, Xbox One come to mind as well as a few portable console. They will absolutely bury it in the eyes of the public. Then, as they attempt to undo the damage they've done, they totally reverse their opinions because a one side battle isn't really good for business.

Now their looking at the Xbox One more objectively and seeing that it's a capable device. You don't really see this in other areas of the tech world. You don't see an all out assault on other car manufacturers, movie studios, phone makers, etc.

The PS4 is the more capable and, at the time, more consumer friendly console. It deserved the positive press it got but the Xbox vs PlayStation battle shouldn't have been as one sided as it's been. The gaming media picked it's "Golden Boy" and ran with it. Now, their finally looking at what's always been most important. The game.

still blaming Mattrick? Looks like PR is working.

The system has had a complete image turn around that's for sure. Outside of graphics wars it has a very good vibes in general, no one even calls it the shooter box anymore. It wont ever beat the PS4 (or 360) but should do OK and help Microsoft out in the consumer entertainment space. What I really like about Microsoft now is their focus on a variety of exclusives, something I felt the 360 lacked.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Remarkable comeback! Seriously, if the contest between the PS4 and the X1 was a heavy weight boxing match we are just half way though round 2, enough time has not passed for a comeback because no one has gone anywhere it has only just begun, both fighters are looking good, strategies may have already changed but a KO has not been delivered, the PS4 is ahead on points at this stage but there is still a long way to go before the end and both are showing that they are up for a long, intense and interesting fight.

Its more like X1 finally put its hands up to block, and possibly got a counter or two off.

Microsoft deserved every single bit of hate that they got. That was pretty anti-consumer. Fans and media alike reacted to Microsofts actions .

Microsoft, the name alone may still enrage a few gamers out there but certainly nothing like it did a year ago. Since the initial announcement of the Xbox One, to now rolling into the holiday season of this year, has the Xbox One made a full turn around? Here’s a hint, we think so!

So having a 24% marketshare=come back? Man, we're setting the bar pretty damn low these days.
