Also, I don't see how the Wii U could be a comeback when its still tracking below the Gamecube and will end up in last place.

I believe the argument was "we have games". It's the equivalent of "everyone's a winner for participating".

That's you. "Casual gamers" is pretty much self explanatory. You might look down on Fifa but the people that play it are loyal (as costumers) and commited (as gamers) as it comes. Can you say the same about Wii Fit U for Wii U  ?

 


A console geneartion starts when a company releases the successor to a console. It can also be a new console. And casual in my opiniom is someone who only buys the same thing every year, or anything that is very advertised.

PS3. 85~ million shipped and counting. 3DS wont even dream of reaching that. XB1 will end around half of that.

Ps3 for home console 3ds barely for handheld.

All the others are still doomed to fail.

The Wii was introduced as a new console but technically, it was not really a new hardware, it was only an improved Gamecube. Same CPU & GPU only clocked higher. It was not a true successor. More like the "new Gamecube" (get it ?!)

Of note, "Broadway, the Wii's CPU, is a derivative of the PowerPC 750 CL clocked at 729Mhz," and that the "Hollywood" GPU has "no notable increases in programmability" over the Gamecube's "Flipper" GPU. Casual gamer is the person who buys games irregularly and doesn't have a serious intention towards them (playing drunk with friends). Several Wii games were well advertised. With all due respect that was a weak attempt at a hipster comment !

I voted ps3, but it is still arguable whether ps3 or 360 finished in second place given how bad tracking was towards the end.


Well, we can't say it's finished. The gen is only over when all consoles aren't manufactured anymore. Any other "end of gen" would be a ltle arbitrary (Wii U's launch? PS4 and X1 launch? Last game on the consoles?).



Bet with jetforcejiminy: PS4 will pass the Wii lifetime numbers.
