Wii u is hardly more powerful than ps3 or 360. It's basically a more efficient 360 with more modern features.

First, it is more powerful than the PS3 that "hardly."  It is notably more powerful.  The law of diminishing returns has just eroded the effects.  Most people forget that the really good looking games on PS3 often ran either at sub-720p native or 30fps (regularly not met) target or even both.  Meanwhile Nintendo hasn't pulled those shenanigans yet so comparisons aren't entirely fair if you are going to only stare at texture resolutions or poly counts.

Second, it is *still* more powerful.  If the Wii U had been, say, 40% more powerful than the Wii or some nonsense, it would have done even worse than it has.  FAR worse.

And besides, the PS4 will be an easy mark to pass in 2018 or even 2017.  Tech prices are falling and PS4 uses the less efficient (although admitedly more convenient) x86 architecture.  So Nintendo should be able to surpass PS4 then easily while still offering the console at a competitive price.

Eh no. It is not notably more powerful. There is nothing on the Wii U that couldn't be done on a PS3.

I expect WiiU to last until 2018.

Not true.

Heck, even Trine 2 and Nano Assault Neo, which were launch titles, would have to be downgraded to run on PS3/360 according to the devs themselves.

It's not hard to make a Wii U game that can't be done on PS3, all you have to do is use more than half of Wii U's RAM.

Ram is not power. Nano assault neo could easily be done on ps3 or 360. Trine 2 I believe has a little bit extra I can't remember what it was. Like I said barely more powerful and ps360 have better cpus. I mean this is common knowledge. Time to accept it.

Power for a console is capability, more RAM improves capability.

Nano Assault Neo was confirmed by its developer to use techniques not possible on last gen systems. With Trine 2, improvements were made to resolution, anti-aliasing, textures, normal mapping, water effects, and physics.

Sure, it's not a quantum leap, but nonetheless Wii U has proven its ability to go beyond what was possible on PS3/360.

Announcing the next system at E3 2015 would be a huge mistake; their remaining loyalists would feel backstabbed, and hardware sales would plummet between then and release.

It would be late 90s Sega all over again.

Next handheld, not really. E3 2015 would be 4 years post-launch and 5 years from when the 3DS was actually announced, more time than the Game Boy Advance got.

I'm with Soundwave on most of this. March/April 2016 launch for the next handheld, the home TV version of that handheld in holiday 2016 because there's little chance or reason for Nintendo to push Wii U past 2016 in the state it's in (likely the holiday '15 wave will be the last big wave of software, with a few scraps in early 2016).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm very bearish on the WiiU and Nintendo in general. They are definitely in a tough place right now IMHO. I think they are similar to where Sony and other JP companies were circa 2007, but they have the weak yen going for them. QoL is a good idea that's coming way too late with google fit and apple fit already going that route.

I don't think Ubi and WB (one of the few remnants 3rd party supporters for the WiiU) will have any more games coming out on it. I do not expect the WiiU to outsell the GC and I think this year (2014) will be the peak year for the WiiU. I expect a new HH showng at next year's E3 or TGS and a new console at the 2016 shows, at the latest as well.

For those of you talking about the Wii U not being noticeably more powerful than PS3:

"Actually – something many gamers have noticed after watching the video – it's quite apparent that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs looks closer to the PS4 version of the game than it does the PS3 or Xbox 360 version."

Successor announced in 2017, released in 2018 alongside 3DS successor, Wii U discontinued in 2019. 3DS discontinued in some areas in 2019 and some in 2020.
