Forums - Sony Discussion - Should I buy a ps4 controller for my ps3?

Ive been playing Tales of Xillia 2, FF XIII-3 and other assorted games with my DS4 without any issue.

Not sure what "Compatibility" issues arise, but you will HAVE to have a DS3 with you at all times that is charged.

The controller is seen as a "3rd party" controller, so the PlayStation button does not work (for quitting games, etc), though it will turn on the console.

I think it is a vastly superior controller to the DS3.

it does not work 100%, so I would stick to a DS3

Buy another DS3 if you like it. There is a chance that if you really liked your DS3, you will like the DS4 less. That's how it was for me.

Not sure if this was already said, but the DS4 is definitely a better controller BUT the battery life is TERRIBLE. I would say they last for probably 1/3 the time, and it might even be less. If you are only going to have 1 controller I would get a DS3. I would not be able to game on PS4 without having 2 controllers. They die pretty fast.

I'm getting a DS3

Fair enough. I started out not liking the DS4, was actually too big for my hands, DS3 was so much nice but I'm really used to it now, feels really nice.

This said, soulfly666 above is right, battery life is poor compared. Not sure why.

Hmm, pie.

I tried a few times but it would never sync.
