Forums - Sony Discussion - PSP Surpasses GBA In Total Shipments! (82mil+) Sony Handheld Analysis, Vita Around 11mil Shipped? Or Something is Missing..

"there are 82 million PSPs in the wild" http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/17/vita-sales-are-picking-up-thanks-to-ps4-remote-play

We just got confirmation that psp over 82mil shipped WW (GBA: 81.51mil). So in perspective, we also have estimated Vita Shipped numbers.

In the past 2 years/6months, sony combined HH Numbers. This number overall is 12.55mil. PSP got discontinued in Japan, so especially this year mre shipments are from Vita. With 79.3mil last known and currently over 2.7mil+ of the 12.55mil is psp, this leaves Vita with at max 9.85mil.

Vita 9.85mil+1.8mi Shipment we know about adds up to 11.65mil Shipped Vita's. There is one problem though, how come Sony never announced 10mil for Vita? Did they forget or not care? Is PSP alot more than 82mil?

TBH, it doesn't make sense especially when we know Vita sold in US/Japan... Thoughts??

What are the last Known Vita/PSP Shipment #s? (Date+Seperate answers)

Can anybody, i know last shipments together butbwat are the last ones known before Sony started to combine them?

Also where is psp being shipped now? I know it discontinued in japan Q1 this year, is it still coming to US/Europe?

Units shipped (worldwide):

PSP: 79.3M as of 2012, March, 31st
PSV: 1.8M as of 2012, March, 31st

FY'12 (April'12-March'13):
PSP+PSV: 7.0M
FY'13 (April'13-March'14):
PSP+PSV: 4.1M
FY'14 (April'14-Sept'14 so far):
PSP+PSV: 1.45M

There was still some PSP shipments last time I went to a retail shop in France... It was some months ago though. It's planned to be discontinued at the end of this quarter for PAL regions. It's already discontinued in North America since last January and in Japan since last June (so PSP has to be ~5-10% of FY'14 WW in my opinion).

PS: I had a small problem only about the FY'11 year (ending March 2012). In the Sony annual earnings, they said the PSP sold 6.8M, and didn't even mention Vita in the whole document. They only made 2 announcements about Vita at that time: 1.2M at the end of february 2012 and some weeks later, 1.8M at the end of March 2012. Also note that in the historical data uploaded on the Sony website, it's still written 6.8M for PSP for that year and that PS Vita sales for FY'11 are not included just behind it.

I might be wrong for that year, but I hope I'm not ^^

Prediction: End of 2015 Hardware sales (as of January 20, 2015)

Wii U: 12.1M | XBO: 19.8M | PS4: 36.0M | 3DS: 58.5M | PSV: 11.7M

PSP still to be sold officially in SE Asia until the end of this quarter, too. I might be wrong, though.

Asia is a PAL region as Europe, So yes, it's still sold over there, you're right.

Whats going on with vita? No announcement of Vita hitting 10mil?

Well, it's the first non-Nintendo handheld to outsell any Nintendo handheld (VB doesn't count), so congrats for that. Really good machine and good software. Pity Vita couldn't follow suit.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

So PSP is the 2nd best selling handheld of all time.

Pretty impressive considering it has almost no support from either Sony or 3rd party in later years due to rampant piracy and was competing against the beastly DS.

It's not the 2nd, it's the 3rd. DS sold 154 millions, and GameBoy 118 millions.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
