Take a look at those WW SELL THROUGH numbers. It's over.

The balance can shift. It's not a good idea to get complacent or cocky.

It doesn't look like it can shift. Wii lost terrain because it had a bad legs caused by a weak hardware. 360 was never ahead of PS3 if you align launches. The difference was just small and it took years to PS3 to outpace it slowly. 360 suffered with a bad Japan performance and weak EU and fighted just with the US.

Right now, the competitions is beyond damned. X1 only has a fight in US, it lost EU completely and if PS4 gains traction in Japan it will outpace it even more. Wii U is pretty much done with zero thirdy party support. This time, the competition simply made to much mistakes with hardware choices. Sony biggest advantage is that they are global players, while MS is pretty much too reliant on the US alone, a price oriented market that only favored them last gen because of that.

Nintendo lost touch with the console market when they lost the 3rd party players. People want GTA, CoD, Madden, Fifa, Far Cry, AC, and so on. Just think about it. PS4 and X1 have their marketing budgets. Let's assume they are the same and that Nintendo expends the same on the Wii U. It's a fair assumption since they usually have a similar budget but even that's a bit of a stretch because Ninty isn't advertising as much as the others. So Wii U has their advertising budgets for the console and their games, as MS and Sony do. But MS and Sony can count on the 3rd parties budget: 2K will advertise GTA, Ubi will advertise AC, Activision will advertise CoD and so on. Effectivelly, MS and Sony have a total budget and advertising time way bigger than Nintendo. Close that with some exclusive ads (it's cheap, just cut royalties and give the game a main spot on the digital store and you have a deal) and these guys are everywhere on the TV and Internet.

It's not X1 and Wii U that are sick. The business model that these 2 use for consoles is sick. One relies too much in a single regions, the other thinks 3rd party games aren't important. Keeping these trend, if Sony doesn't do a big mistake, they win hands down. If they do a big mistake, they still can fight and maybe even get a win. If MS or Nintendo had done the same BS Sony did last gen they would have been blown out of water instead of selling 80M consoles.

Did Sony recover from that 1.2Billion loss already! YEAH!

And they´re selling 500.000 Vitas worldwide every week! YAY!  :)          Let´s celebrate!

arrogance is not a word i would use with this, aggressive marketing is more of the word.

I always find it funny when people try to make these sorts of claims.

Look at the numbers selling per week. Wii down, PS3 and 360 up. No matter what argument you want to put forward for why the shift happened, the fact is that both PS3 and 360 sold more strongly later than they did earlier, while the Wii sold stronger earlier, and declined later. That's not just "weak hardware meant bad legs", because that doesn't explain the weaker sales of PS3 and 360 in the first few years.

This isn't about console wars. It's about complacency. Leaders risk getting complacent. Look at Nintendo's output after 2009, and compare it with their output before then - not in terms of games you might be interested in, but broad-appeal games. Wii sales disappeared because Nintendo stopped catering to the expanded audience, stopped trying to push the boundaries properly. Meanwhile, 360 and PS3 expanded their appeal beyond the shooters that were so excessively common early in their lives.

By the way, Wii U sales are stronger now than they were at any time during the period where they still had decent 3rd party support. Any argument for Wii U's sales based on third party is disingenuous.

I too dance in the face of my enemies.

Win what?

The hearts of consumers

Oh well I guess if they feel the need to waste money on this type of stuff then fine by me

Commercials are a waste of money?

I dont see whats wrong here, lots of people nowadays are just looking for something to pin. Happens almost everytime a companys product is best selling compared to its competition. Any little talk sony says about the competition is arrogance, i wonder what people would think of reggie when he was downplaying both PS4/X1 of recent.

thread attempting flame war by falsely implying that sales parity means competition.
