Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Smash U get docked in reviews for online issues at launch?

Tagged games:

We've already seen Gametrailers slap the 3DS version with a 7.4/10 for the online play being problematic at launch, and this is a running theme elsewhere as well, with Gamespot giving Halo: Master Chief Collection a 6/10 for the same reason.

Could Smash Wii U suffer the same fate?

Depends on if it has issues or not.

Do you think it will?

I think in terms of being able to connect to people and play games, I think it will be fine. When MK8 launched, it sold like 1 million first week or something and when SSB3ds launched, it also sold a shit ton but both of those games didn't have any online issues apart from some hosts having a hamster powered routers so I think it will be fine overall. The only issue I have found with Nintendo's online environment is the fact that there are some social features missing and obviously, dedicated servers wouldn't hurt either but in terms of actually being able to play the game online with other people, so far, I saw no issue with their big titles which is kind of ironic if you think about it

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Embargo lifts on Nov 19th, No online at all (i played the final version) intill launch.

Also whatever scores people gave the 3ds, wiiu should either be equal or higher. Thats why for this metascore im doing comparisons. See it soon. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193126&page=1

I don't think it will. I'm confident it will work mostly fine and reviewers will ignore the small problems that all online games have.

Personally i think they are harsher on FPS for online reviews. Fighting games tend to be the hardest to pull off in terms of online, or so i read. I dont get it though :P

Smash U will have less copies sold at launch (because there are less Wii U's out there than 3ds's, more people will play it in person local multiplayer (not using internet and servers), and is made for a system that can support better internet speeds (I'm guessing it has better technology) so I would imagine the smash u launch will be much smoother for online stuff. You've got to remember, the Wii had a massive install base compared to the wii u at the launch point of it's smash bros game.

I think their will be enough positives (like those extra contents; 8 player mode, stage creator ) that will somehow counter the negatives (bad online).

Nintendo put so much content into this, which i hope the reviewers will look at them in more depth ( lol i dont think this makes sense)

And will the amiibos be part of their reviews?

Pocky Lover Boy!

If the online is problematic to an unplayable degree (a la DC and MCC), it would only make sense. However, the multiplayer component of Smash is more of a local than online thing (again, compared to DC and MCC which are mainly online multiplayer) from what I know. I don't think they would take off more than half a point or so unless the 8 player on local played awfully.
