Forums - Gaming Discussion - Alleged Ex-Ubisoft Employee Talks About His Experience

UPADTE: The post has been removed now, you can find a screenshot of the thread below.

Many of us want to work in the game development industry to do what we love to do i.e. “gaming.” But a shocking revelation from an alleged ex-Ubisoft employee on /r/assassinscreed clearly shows that not it’s not as easy or rewarding to work in the highly competitive industry especially as a developer.

The employee was quoted as saying:

I was in a meeting personally with Yves Guillemot, who said that he doesn’t care about PC gamers because, and i quote “90% are pirates anyway”, that’s after a direct question from a well-respected, well paid programmer back in the late 2000s asking “why are our pc ports fucking shit?”, so we outsourced it all to Eastern Europe.

Not only that,

We worked 50-70 hour per week (anything above 37 is unpaid). I’ve seen guys shamed for leaving at 5pm. We had to beg to have our deadline extended or we WOULD release a horrible broken mess. To miss our deadline we had to lose a few random workers.

He further added that,

We can release a shit buggy game, or a good one a few months later, but we have to figure out which is better for our fiscal forecasts because each game from conception already has a release date and expected revenue for that fiscal period.

Reading this, it clearly shows that game development has become more of a business rather than a passion thing. This also might explain the idea why Assassin’s Creed: Unity was such a mess at launch. With the kind of treatment meted out developers with force deadlines and work pressure, it sure is a miracle we are still having such a growth in the industry.

Sounds like first grade BS...

Wouldn't rule it out.

Not that PC gamers didn't know Ubisoft's fail optimization and DRM when it comes to PC before this. Sighh, Ubisoft, please die already

Sounds like standard business to me.

Even my company is like this. (I am a part timer there)

My boss keeps a minimum number of employees so the company does not implode and 90% of us have to do extra work because we are completely understaffed.  My boss does this because he gets a fat EXTRA BONUS PAYCHECK for doing this. And if you complain he says "Did you say something? Leave if you want noone needs you for every free position I have there is 100 idiots I can hire".

Thank god I am working at a department that is completely isolated from the rest so I can work at my own pace and even play 3DS simply because I see no co-worker all day unless I leave my "area".

If you do 1 tiny thing they dont like  they fire you. 1 guy was traumatized because his friend comiited suicide and he was so shocked he could not work properly  he was fired the same day.  Another one was ill brought the doctors certificate and then had a 10 minute talk with a co-worker on our parking lot/car park. The boss saw this and fired him because "If you can stand around there and talk and have a laugh you just faked being ill"

Wouldn't surprise me at all if this is true, but Reddit?

Considering how dumb they have been over the years, why wouldn't I be? Watch_Dogs, downgraded on all platforms and runs like ass on PC. Asscreed, has FPS issues on all platforms, it includes microtransactions that cost upto $99 which btw, is more than the game itself (not to mention its a paid game with micro-transactions) and it runs like ass on PC. Their DRM has been terrible on PC and they have made sure that a number of their single player games has always online drm which if u you offline, it will make u stop from playing games and the list goes on. I have zero respect for this publisher
