Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4: The Year One Review (Gamespot)

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps4-the-year-one-review/1100-6422875/

The PS4's first year has not featured a single must-have exclusive game, but it is one where Sony has created the best foundations possible for a future filled with them. Its hardware and operating system has already accomplished so much, its commercial reception has been so outstanding, and its love affair with developers has been so intimate that one cannot doubt how important the console will be in the years ahead.

But that's for the future, and it's the key point, because buying a PS4 will likely be a wiser decision to make next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.

The PS4 is an accomplished, superior games console, but not yet an essential purchase.

Make no mistake, you won't feel short-changed for buying a PS4 right now. It's one of the most impressively assembled games consoles in history, but if you hold off until the right game arrives, you shouldn't feel like you're missing out too much either. More time is needed to (hopefully) solve the controller battery problems, to fix PlayStation Now and the quality of live feeds, to take a second look at PlayStation Plus and EA Access, to revise the media capabilities, to fix the problems with PSN, and most importantly, to build a desirable library of games.

Sony has made incredible strides in the past several years, but it cannot stop now. The PS4 is an accomplished, superior games console, but not yet an essential purchase.

I looked around to see if it has already been posted but I couldn't find any. Anyways they make some good points and get everything about right, I agree with and some that I disagree with. Most notably PS Now being worthless(for now).

Anyways, thoughts?

Makes sense really. There are a lot of crossplatform games as well as a lot of multiplatform games and the exclusives have been bad to good with DC being broken for over a month. The future of the ps4 is bright cause the potential is there and Sony proved that the potential can be a reality with their previous consoles but as of right now, its not a "must have system" unless you are really looking to upgrade

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Agreed

Let me give some context: the only console with must-have exclusives is Nintendo's.

Yeah, methinks exclusives don't mean much these days.

The comment at 4:00 is so spot on.

4:00 - "The best thing about having a PS4 is not having to use an Xbox One. The whole experience is just so much nicer. The Xbox One UI is still not quite there yet and not having to deal with that is one of the best things."

As an owner of both I couldn't agree more, Xbox One users have it bad and they don't know it.

I really wish sometimes that I could take some of the XB1 guys on here, show them the consoles side by side, show them how clunky the Xbox One is compared to the PS4's experience; and how amazingly empty and shit their store is compared to the PS4's.

I think I'll just play it any ways and continue to not give a damn about this fluff piece.

Not sure if trolling, both of the UIs are fairly dry, seeing as that PS4 is all over the place with content and the One is full of ads. Also, the One makes up for the PS4 in terms of content by having (currently) higher rated exclusives in the store.

Really, I don't think anyone is missing out on anything (either that, or both fanbases are missing out, since the UI for both is still evolving).

Are you trolling?  I much prefer the PS4's UI, and the store is fast and has a lot more content.  The Xbox One's store is like going back in time to the original PS3 Store (shudder).  XB1 UI is worse than Xbox 360's UI.

Also i really disagree about the content too.  The grass is not as green on Xbox One as some would like you to believe.

Let's wait and see if they do one about the Xbox One.  I'm sure it will be a lot less positive.
