Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii owners want a PS3

lots of people do

people who never would play consoles (at least since nes/snes days) because too many buttons, too complicated etc...these people are buying a wii because of the motion controls

people like me who hate fps on consoles...only played them on pc...now we can play on console as well

the wiimote+nunchuk still does the gamepad functionality...u still have a joystick and plenty of buttons for those games

just like having a 2d only console is obsolete...a 3d console can still do 2d games, but a 2d only console is obsolete

and just like 2d is better than 3d in the hands of developers back in the 90s for many genres, whereas now 3d is better in many of those genres

but there is still the side-scrolling platform genre that rules for 2d, just like there will be reasons to use joystick+buttons on wiimote for certain games

the joystick-only went obsolete with nes-master system, but joystick-only was still good for flight games, for example....same with the wheel being good for arkanoid but not for super mario brothers

Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08.  Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)

Predictions:

Wii will sell 18-20mil by 12/31/07  CHECKWii will sell 45mil+ WW by 12/31/08Wii will surpass PS2 sales WW by 11/17/11 (5yr anniversary)Wii Fit will hit 12mil sales in 2009MKWii+SSBB+Wii Fit+SMG > 50 mil sales by 2010 > gta4+mgs+gt5+ff13+haze+lbp

Yes it can but IMO not as well as the normal controllers. (just because you can doesn't mean you should) Also trying to aim at the bar in shooters isn't a user frinedly as a mouse thus PC shooters still rules with higher resolution.

Wii and a 360 makes much more sense imo. Way more games on the 360 than PS3. That is what I have. Buying a PS3 after a 360 makes sense.

I thought that Sony already decreased manufacturing costs to the same level as sales costs, but of course there is shipping and the retailers cuts to take into account

I own a Wii and Like Endless Ocean and Have SMG and considering a PS3 in the future.
Just not until it gets down to at least the 300$ tag and I really want LBP and LA NOIRE.

Retailers make like... nothing on consoles. There is almost no margin. You sell the hardware so you can sell the software.

Some group suggested they probably were breaking even, while SOny said nothing on the matter.

Were they really even on PS3 software they would of made a bigger profit last financial report.

Well, I'm a Wii owner and I love games, but I'm still doubting between 360 and PS3, and I think there are A LOT like me. So imo just stating that Wii owners will automatically buy a PS3 as a second console is utter nonsense.

My console seller is RE5, by the way and at the moment 360 has way more games I'd like to play: Blue Dragon, Bioshock, Lost Odyssee, Gears, Tales of Vesperia, Alan Wake, Mass Effect.

PS3 still has a lot to prove and has currently NO exclusive game I consider a must buy (Uncharted is cool). But FF13+V, White Night Chronicles and Eight Days could change my mind.

Still, if production cost = sales costs, then the retailers cut, however small, will make them a loss

Yeah, but in the losses were too small, the only indication of it breaking even was some third party company saying they think they were breaking even. I think the gains would of been a lot more dramatic last quarter if they really did break even.

$10-15 at most on each console. And games aren't much better. $20 or there abouts. The real money is made on accessories like extra controllers and the like.
