Forums - Nintendo Discussion - After Bayonetta 2's performances, what are the expectations on Devil's Third?

Can it sell better lifetime than the Platinum Games' masterpiece?

Will it be doomed to fail?

Will it do ok?

Will online be broken when it releases so Polygon changes its scores some time later?

What do you think?

No

Yes

No

Potentially, it is "funded" by Nintendo and so far, none of their games really had online connection issues even at launch apart from the issues that Peer-to-Peer games have in every platform where the host is playing on kfc wifi and therefore making everyone lag. But at the sametime, just cause its Nintendo funded doesn't mean it will turn out well *cough* Sanic Doom *cough*

And I think I need more info on it to get me interested

The Wii U will sell more boxes the closer it gets to Christmas, and January is when a lot of consoles sell well also. I expect Bayonetta to have one more huge boost in sells. But Smash Bros is the #1 thing for that console by far. Sorry Mario Kart 8 but most people just played you as a stopping gap before Smash Bros Wii U.

My expectations are for it to flop out of the gate.

Oh, you want us to compare it to Bayonetta? Then I think it'll... flop out of the gate.

It's not necessary to compare it to Bayonetta; but since both are hardcore games done from a second party, I thought why not put them side to side!

Second party?

And it may seem like it could be at least a little comparable, but I seriously doubt Nintendo will support DT as much as they did Bayo2.

Aren't both games from a second party developer?

It won't have the level of critical praise that Bayo 2 received, nor will it be as good a game. (Though to be fair I expect very few games this gen will be)

I expect around 400k lifetime.

I expect a niche group of gamers will buy it. I'll buy it myself as its a 3rd party exclusive. Its life will depend on how the multiplayer works out. I really hope its a good game with excellent online. Wii U needs a game like it.

A bit too early to say in my opinion, as we need new recent gameplay of it.
