Forums - Sony Discussion - Did Sony get too cocky not matching the Xbone's price drop this holiday season?

Your logic is all wrong. PS4 selling more units would indeed impact X1, they are direct competitors.

Xbox 360 thriving took sales away from PS3 because most people won't buy both.

Indeed it did, it was on sale a full year before the PS3 was, but, the question is , did that head start and the much stronger sales, stop the PS3 from being a success in the long term? no.

Besides, this is all working on the assumption that Sony has missed an opportunity that they will never have again, and thats a stupid assumption.

Sales are strong right now, without a cut in price, when sales start to dip they can roll out a sales cut and bring the baseline back up, or would you have preffered it if Sony had went all out and set to obliterate the xbox one? because even if they tried, even if the pricepoint was low enough, that still wouldnt happen, microsoft have the financials to stoop to ANY level to salvage their efforts, so it would be a futile and extremely wasteful attempt, to drop the price of a console that is the global sales leader.

And backing away from the focus on particular consoles, one thriving and the other on the brink of death is detrimental to the games industry now, back in the Ps2 days it wasnt, but now, third parties would die out entirely in a situation where only one manufacturers system was doing well.

They f'd up, that's all I'm saying.

No. In fact if Microsoft could not win with price parity, it means that Sony needs only wait for the sale to enf in order to establish monthly dominance. And since they wont be beaten world wide, I fail to see why the need to win the US every month in order to retain the title of top console.

Does anyone understand that they couldn't even if they wanted to? Sony's losing enough money as it is.

A pricecut for the PS4 would be unfair lol. However if the XOne wins it won't win be such a margin that a price - cut would be necessary.

Nope. They are still outselling xb1 and now has a much higher profit margin on each

Sony not taking risk is allowing the X1 to become a serious competitor. I expected this given Sony's financial situation.

would sony selling more stop the xbox one from thriving? nope.

Did the xbopx 360 thriving stop the ps3 from thriving? nope.

It is simply an equilibrium of choice over two very similar systems, also i wouldnt call "hasnt outsold it on weekly sales once in 2014 despite frequent sales and free game bundling" thriving.
Selling decently? yes, thriving? not really.

Exactly.  There isnt an unlimited market..

why does it need a pricecut? its already sold out on amazon :P

Here's a better question. Did the 360's success stop PS3 from achieving PS2 success? Absolutely.

Remember, Sony sacrificed billions just to compete with the Xbox 360. Its debatable whether or not the PS3 was a success.

PS4 is going strong, but it could be doing better if Sony was more competitive and taking more sales from Xbox. That's a fact.

has xbox one won in worldwide weekly sales this year yet?
no?
well there is your answer.

But is Sony stopping the X1 from thriving? Nope.

Who are you kidding.  X1 would need to sale at least 70% what PS4 is selling world wide to be serious comp and its neevr going to do that.

They arent fools to overreact to a short term spike due to price cut bundles and seasonal bump.
