Forums - Sony Discussion - Did Sony get too cocky not matching the Xbone's price drop this holiday season?

If the people on the fence about purchasing a next gen console

Not many gamers are "on the fence" people. Gamers know what they want. Casuals follow trends no matter what and the trendy console has already been determined. It's not like they're going to go "The less popular console, that most of my friends don't have, is cheaper, so I'm going to get that one." They're going to buy what is popular and PS4 is the most popular console this generation.

People forget that. The most important thing when selling consumer goods in the US is image and being that "cool" item.

If vgchartz is right, they made the right move.

4 ≈ One

LOL Sony by far made the right decision. They will still likely tie or edge out a win in NA this Novemeber, and then go on to dominate again in December.

I would ask your friends if choosing a vastly inferior device they will be stuck with for 5 years is worth paying 15% less up front. Hell the extra $10 for Live will make up that $50 in five years anyways!

has xbox one won in worldwide weekly sales this year yet?
no?
well there is your answer.

Yes. They're cocky AND financially responsible. They got it all!

Microsoft is losing and big it cost $471 to initially make the X1 and $381 to make a ps4 Microsoft was expected to lose $1billion at $500 consoles that has drastically risen since they had to remove kinect and lower prices further. This is no time to celabrate Sony's making bank could be used to buy out game companies and improve software if Microsoft lowers its price its gonna stay in that price range if it goes back to its default price 2nd hand sellers can resell and make profit and the X1 will have a slow selling start considering the price increase

Who really thinks MS will pu the price back up to $399. If they did that the bottom would drop out of their sales and they'd go back to Kinect level sales before the new year even got started. No they will make the US price cut permanent and also officially cut the price in al other territories, IMO.

Sony knows it can't be cocky in the USA. Despite winning every NPD in 2014 some months wht win was not huge, so they always knew Xb one was hovering in the shadows. If they are cocky about anything it's everywhere else. But not the USA.

Sony did right by not matching. They are outselling it WW, while just barely being outsold in a territory that was dominated by MS all the way up til this gen. I think they can take a 2-3 month loss in one territory.

But is Sony stopping the X1 from thriving? Nope.

Sony not taking risk is allowing the X1 to become a serious competitor. I expected this given Sony's financial situation.

would sony selling more stop the xbox one from thriving? nope.

Did the xbopx 360 thriving stop the ps3 from thriving? nope.

It is simply an equilibrium of choice over two very similar systems, also i wouldnt call "hasnt outsold it on weekly sales once in 2014 despite frequent sales and free game bundling" thriving.
Selling decently? yes, thriving? not really.

Your logic is all wrong. PS4 selling more units would indeed impact X1, they are direct competitors.

Xbox 360 thriving took sales away from PS3 because most people won't buy both.
