Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Evil Within, Shadows of Mordor, or Grand Theft Auto V?

So my mother and girlfriend both asked what game I'd like for Christmas and I narrowed It down to three. The Evil Within, Shadows of Mordor, or Grand Theft Auto V (PS4). So basically I can get two of the three, but all three look great. I owned Grand Theft Auto V on last gen but sold it to buy Far Cry 4. But would love jump back into it. Love survival horror. And Im a fan of The Lord of The Rings/Batman combat system. Any opinions, thoughts on these games  would be appreciated.

Grand Theft Auto V

Stunning game

Shadows of Mordor was decent, but only really 20 hours of content. Can't talk about the Evil Within, I don't really know much about anything

Well I finished GTA V on PS3 and Evil Within on PS4. Currently playing Shadow of Mordor.

Obviously GTA V is a superior game to the other two, but if you already played it on PS3 I would drop that.

The Evil Within is an intense, hard and long action game with a lot of gore and little horror elements and an old school approach.

Shadow of Mordor is a total rip-off from the Batman Arkham fighting mechanics in a middle sized sandbox world. It's a good quality, polished game, but nothing too spectacular.

I would give GTA V a 9.5 and the other two a 7.5 if you ask me.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Find a rich girl.

Get all the games.

I was just trying to decide between Sunset Overdrive, Shadow of Mordor, and Evil Within. I ended up going with Mordor. Haven't played it yet, though. Having second thoughts i should have gone with Evil Within.

I dont know if you are in the US but you shouldn't have trouble finding SOM or EW for $30 at many retailers. Every year around this time multiple stores have specials on the games that arent 2-3 weeks old and not only on black friday.

I would guess since you already played GTA 5 you should just wait to get it cheap.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

The Evil Within is a good game but it has flaws and is really only a 1 time playthrough. Closest way to describe the game as a whole is Resident Evil 4 Part 2, but nowhere near as innovative, less polish, and a clunky camera. Fun shooting, excellent melee, and super violent. Disappointing "Japanese style" story. By that I mean text driven by short pickups and things are just implied with no explanation. Doesn't really draw you in much to the characters.  Overall, it is way better than RE6 and prob is the game RE5 should have been. 7/10

Shadow of Mordor is amazing and neck and neck with Wolfenstein for best game I played this year. Already have 45 hours at least. The combat never gets old even after beating the game and just milling around. It is basically the most refined Assassin's Creed game ever. 9/10

GTA5 has the most replay value, but if you already played it then you already played it.
