Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your opinion is appreciated..is Shadow of Mordor worth it?

I´d like to read your opinions about this game..I´ll just say I´m not really into Assassins Creed but I love the Batman Arkham combat, I heard the game is like a mix between the two.

yes. its a good game. the final boss is garbage though. buy it. the combat its pretty good. is cheap now anyway.
buy the evil within as well. both are 8/10 games

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

It's good, but the not GOTY material people made it to be, in my opinion. The combat is a bit easy for me, I've died 3 times and I've done about 2/3 of the game. Also, all the activities in the game involve killing orcs, so it's a bit lacking in variety. The nemesis system is great, though a bit annoying that some orcs come back from the dead.

That said, if you love the Batman combat and you're not into AC, you'll probably like this. It's not really like AC at all, and the combat is very similar to Batman's from what I heard (never played a Batman game coz I don't care about Batman).

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

Definitely worth it. But it'll go on the back burner next week when Dragon Age comes out.

Decent game. I'd say it's worth it.

Lovely world but no diversity in the environments, nice lightning but the backed weather and lighting system makes the world feel less alive and eventually boring to look at.

Gameplay wise, it is really a copy-pase from Assassin's Creed franchise except for the combat which is a little more refined. You mash a button for attacking, other button is to counter enemies attack. The problem for me is that you can counterattack even if you are in the middle of attacking animation yourself. That makes the battle system all about mashing buttons without any consideration for the timing. And also make the battle animations weird and out of place.

While attacking and using abilities could be very satisfying in the beginning, the battle system also end up being repetitive with no depth to explore. Only one weapon to use. The abilities could be cool, but they fail add depth to the system execpt for one ( shadow strike ). The developer try to cover the dumbed-down system with using hordes of enemies in each battle.

Just like Assassin's Creed, you get abilities like eagle eye, and stealth kill. Also copy-pasted some world elements like climbing towers to reveal everything on the map.

Lovely sounds design. The nemesis system is very good (something new... Finally)

While the story is nothing special and fails to evoke any kind of emotions or make you care, the world could be enjoyable for LoTR fans.

All in all, the game is decent and enjoyable enough to give it a try. But the lack of ambition is obvious ( especially boss fights ). Good game, but overrated imo.

It is excellent. Neck and neck with Wolfenstein for best game this year so far. That being said, if you actually don't like Assassin's Creed, there is a strong chance you will not like it. It is basically the most refined AC game ever made.  I have put 45 hours into 1 save without restarting it yet, which I will likely do at some point.

I agree with your summary, but there is one simple to way to describe combat. Batman Arkham Asylum

It's just identical, even down to the buttons. I have never played 2 games of different franchises so alike in that respect

But it's quite fun for 15 hours. I never really fell in love with the Nemesis system and once you get into the rythmn (which I had from a lot of time spent on Arkham Asylum) it's really rather easy

Yes, a lot of people say this as well, but for someone who has never played Arkham Asylum like myself, I can't make such a claim, that would be dishonest. But looking at some footage, they do look very alike.

I really wish if there was a hard mode in SoM, it could have been a much better game if it was more balanced. There is a lot of potential here, hopefully they will make a sequel to improve the shortcomings. Seeing how the game didn't get get any noticeable criticism from the reviews, I doubt they gonna change or improve much sadly.

to me the story wasn't that good. The game does have good gameplay. I sold mine after a week of ownership.
