I guess we'll have to see how AW legs it out before we can conclude anything definitive about regaining much of the audience. Ghosts LTD on PS3604bone is ~23 million on VGC to date, so it's still a shit tonne of games that CoD is selling. No doubt on PS4bone the LTD for AW will be much bigger than Ghosts. But the counterbalance is that the LTD on PS360 will be much lower. AW should still crack 20 million across the 4 consoles, but whether it will leg it out to pass Ghosts will be interesting to watch.
By all accounts globally in the USA AW pre-ordered below Ghosts (though perhaps not as low as the VGC pre-order charts susggest). So the main driving market for CoD might be what makes it pull up short, while the lesser CoD markets might see a bit of growth over Ghosts it will probably not be enough to compensate for the shrink in the USA.
Also 32% of sales on last gen consoles means there's quite a sizeable chunk of the CoD fanbase yet to switch generations. Has Activision definitely decided the 2015 CoD will be new gen (and PC) only?
Also PS3 being slightly over 50% of 360 sales is somewhat in line with the proportions on opening week of Ghosts for PS360 in the UK, though it's a much lower proportion compred to BLOPS 2 which was well over 2/3rds. So if this is any indication of generational conversion rates it would suggest similar proportions of 360 and PS3 gamers are moving to the new gen.
Given the tweet suggesting "nothing surprising" about hardware sales I actually think that's a bit surprising. Given the PS4 and Xb one CoD numbers are so close, much much closer than the install base, I would have guessed that the CoD bundle would make Xb one more likely to outsell PS4 for the week. So if indeed PS4 is the top console for the week that normally unsurprising result is surprising. So perhaps the nothing surprising tweet actually means Xb one sold more for the week, which is not surprising given the closeness of the SW sales.
