Tachikoma said: The problem with the xbo speed test is that it takes the latency speed right at the end of the speed test, with a slower connection it wouldnt make much difference but with a crazy high speed connection the network stack is still dropping out of high load state, so it tests latency whilst still under load. Ironically, despite such a high testing speed, the actual network usage when downloading a purchased game is significantly lower, and only somewhat faster than PSN. Actual usage for PSN when downloading a game stands at : 3.24mb/s Actual usage for XBL while download a game (downloading MCC right now for example) 3.93mb/s Neither network allows a single download to exceed 5mb per second in speed, essentially no matter how fast your connection is, if you are download only one game at a time, the network acts as if your connection is only 40mbit maxed out, steam on the other hand will physically download at over 600mbit (hence real world speeds of 75.7mb/s and higher). The exception to this rule however is games streaming additional content, some use the standard networks and thus are bound to this 40mbit cap, others used a distributed content provision, like steam, and will download additional content as fast as the network will allow. |
why didn't you put that very rleevant info on the actual download speeds in the opening post?
