The reason I like Smash over other fighting games, especially Melee is that the player creates combos by chaining together atomic moves rather and those combos can be chained together in a way similar to fighting games.

Typical fighting games, have the player imputing commands that activate combos. In that way Melee is more organic.

That being said I love fighting games, but I'm nowhere as good in them as I am in smash, because in Smash you can get away with lack of tech skill, up unto a point, by reading your opponent and practicing atomic moves.

Smash Bros is one of those games you can pick up for the first time and beat experienced players. It’s not like Street Fighter or anything, it’s very simple and has almost no learning curve whatsoever.

At work, we had this hardcore player, refused to play with anything except a really noisy GC controller. Has played something like 800 hours of Smash Brothers Cubed alone, and he never won more than maybe 1/3rd of the games even on a good day - I also hate him because he never stopped bitching and complaining about stuff when we just want to have fun. I don’t think anyone else in our group has played more than 20 hours before (aside from me and another who played a ton of N64 Smash Bros).
