If you're Nintendo, would you try and have Camelot revive Golden Sun?

The last Golden Sun, Dark Dawn, (which was supposedly the first in the "mainline" series) sold just short of a third of a million units. On the other hand, only two games that I know of were developed by Camelot outsold it, both in the Mario Tennis series.

Or, would you rather have a new IP? (These guys made Shining Force, by the way.)

Not if they make another mediocre game.

I'd prefer a new IP.

But if they do, they should change Isaac's name.

IF I was head of Nintendo, absolutely.

Sadly the truth, is that it isn't likley. Nintendo actually has a number of RPGs they can possibly pull from not mentioning the recent cult classic Xenoblade series and the SRPG granddaddy Fire Emblem. Golden Sun while a good game wasn't exactly a world changer or a system seller, I would like to see the series continue but I get why Nintendo would not be anxious to put funds or man power to it.

But yeah, it would make for a great 3DS eShop game or instead of a brand new game remake the first two as a combined HD collection for eShop game for Wii U.

They should. The first two were amazing RPGs and Dark Dawn was still pretty good!

The writing is poor in all Golden Sun games, so Camelot isn't exactly a good candidate to make RPGs. Even though Dark Dawn ended with a cliffhanger, it seems to be for the best to leave the series dead.

YES!!,I was rushing in here to say a much longer version of this. I dont ever allow story/writing to intervene in my enjoyment of games much but this series is an exception. The writing is unbearable. Why does the game have to pause for emoticons... that happen frequently? Tons of casual conversation with bad guys, long, drawn out, slow conversation... Ugh. The beginning of GS2 is .... I hate it.

I cant stand this series. If Nintendo continues to invest in it they need to choose another developer, or at least have someone else write it.

Beyond the Beyond 2.

The original was a super cliche RPG, but if the whole extra damage/damage reduction wasn't based on pressing a combination of buttons at the correct time and properly balanced the game would have be a good game.  As of now it's just rather decent or meh, depending on if you can get past the crappy timed attack gameplay or not.

@RolStoppable

You must not be familiar with the Shining series then, because those were some great rpgs, that had good writing. They made 10 total Shining games, including the Sega CD game and the Game Gear spin-offs, and most of them if not all of them were very good. They also made Beyond the Beyond on PS1. So Golden Sun is hardly their first go-round as an rpg maker, and that was precisely what they were known for, BEFORE they developed the first Hot Shots Golf on PS1, which is what lead to Nintendo hiring them to make Mario Golf, etc.

Golden Sun is okay, and a fourth game would be cool. But I think what would have more value, is if, since Nintendo is pretty cozy with Sega these days, they would iron out a deal with Sega for Camelot to make a new Shining Force (or other Shining) game, either for Wii U or 3DS (or hell, both). Nintendo could certainly use another exclusive game, and I think at this juncture there would likely be a lot more hype for a new Shining Force than there would be for another GS.

Except for Shining in the Darkness(which isn't one of the TRPGs and an absolute garbage game,) I've never played anything other than the first Shining Force and haven't been interested in playing another game in the series because of it.  I've played many TRPGs and even though it's not close to being the wosrst of the bunch, it's definitely not close to being the best of them.  It does have the basics set up nicely, but there are a lot of issues with the game.  I wouldn't say it's great.  Hell, I'd be lying if I said that I thought it was good.

It's not a very well known franchise, I don't think Nintendo will use it in a while. But a remake of the two GBA titles as launch titles for their next handheld (9th gen, no N3DS) would be cheap for Nintendo and good for the IP.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
