Forums - Sales Discussion - Destiny caused 500k+ returns of PS4.

Its an interesting comment. Despite the humour, anecdotally there were a number of returns over Destiny.

PURELY TO ALLAY THE CONCERNS OF THOSE WHO MISUNDERSTAND - Returns do not actually subtract from the sales tracked on VGC.

And yet we are no closer to understanding what seem like obvious tracking issues with all consoles.  Its just really strange.

Oh my god....

Yea, the ridiculous undertracking of the PS4 continues. I wish I kmew the logic (or lack of logic) that led to this decision but I'd probably be something completely stupid. I think once Sony announces numbers again and shows VGC being way off again, we can finalky conclude that there is definitely something fishy going on.

they gave back the entire system instead of just trading in the game somewhere or selling the game?

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. The hype Sony generated is slowly waning and as a result sales will begin to plummet for the PS4.

As for the OP, it is very plausible but ill believe the numbers when I see them (although such a thing will never be officially announced).

That's not how console sales work. The only way the mass market leader drops is iff(if and only if) the entire market drops. Gaps might decrease, but reversals do not happen. Thus, we can conclude hype doesn't matter not anymore. The only time it did matter was during the launch period. After January, the PS4 was selling on popularity not hype; especially when most definetions of "hype" don't make any kind of sense after the launch period.

not to mention this is obviously a joke for many reasons that utlize common sense or an iota of reasoning skills.

Just sayin.

The ps4 sold on popularity due to the hype

600k.. 1.5 or 2 weeks of sales?

More seriously, what are your sources for this calculation? or how did you come up with the number?

and nobody returned the XB1 bundles?

Nobody bought an X1 for Destiny. They all knew it was bad so nobody jumped in

I bought it digitally.

But MS already warned us that returning it because of disappointment isn't a valid reason for a refund.

Return X1 because of Destiny, get refund and banned... don't seem a nice strategy right?

Atleast they get to keep the free Perfium :D

Due means as a result of, that is the assertion, I am making. Hype caused it, but after launch it stopped being the case.

Cause is not the case.

Popularity is not the same thing as hype, not in this scenario and not the way its being used here.

While Jan 2015 is an artificial deadline, I'm setting it at the end of holiday season, where all console sales dropped. The sales momentum of the system afterward was a result of its popularity, or percieved customer value. Price, features or lack of features, library, brand, etc.
